G is the maximum value for each port on the the sii card .
if there is nothing attached then it is ignored.

Still need to maualy select the boot drive, I'll look into that later... still copying stuff....
We're getting there though...

Copying takes forever, see my other thread about alternative backup media...

Cheers

Martin

oh, btw, It seems all my data has survived As I was afraid it wouldnt have....
(Mental note to myself: Be warned ! DO MORE REGULAR BACKUPS !!!)

@Spectre660

I have one HD connected to the first SATA port of the sil 3114
and one DVDRW atached to the second port of the sil

Nothing on the Sams SATA port (jumper set to use the PCI port)

And right now for cpyingmy old data, one ATA drive connected through a ATA to USB adapter, connected to the front USB bus of my tower connected to one of Sams internal USB ports.

I remove the last one when booting.

@Spectre660

Thank you ! I will, but first I need to finish copying.

Is there any information on uboot settings anywhere ? Not just the sii settings.

Just checking. Don't you mess up the "this time only" settings with the "saved" settings?
The first ones are accessible when you type the "enter key" on Uboot countdown. The later are the ones accessible when you type the "space key" on the countdown.
You need to use the later.

Not specifically for the Sam but it might be useful to read: http://www.intuitionbase.com/static.php?section=uboot

@Metalheart

some USB keyboards with hubs give problems.
Its a bit better with update 4.
Also can see why your copying of files via USB took so long.
USB 2.0 was implemented in update 3 .

@Spectre660

I removed my KVM switch, put my mouse and KB on separate ports (instead of the USB to 2xPS2 splitter) and then it worked.

Quickly installed update 4.

Now copying it much much faster indeed. Jee, I'm so stupid......

Trying the KVM and PS2 adapter again later on.

Thanks

weird that it all worked with update 2 (except speed)... what changed in update 3 ?

btw, interesting site, didnt know it existed....

@Metalheart

I guess that we also forget that the install CDs for machines other than the X1000 are at Update 1 or 2 levels .
Also that Uboot has not been updated on these machines but has to be done by the user,
Back in the day before Amiga OS4 Update 2 it was quicker to transfer files via network than USB.

For mouse & kbd, there are basically three drivers.

UBoot supplies one for the keyboard. Don't really need a mouse.

Then the kernel modules supply Bootmouse & Bootkeyboard. These two are
used to get to the Early Startup and can be used in the system. They
are overridden when the USB stack takes over, during S:Startup-sequence,
and supplies its own device drivers.

Speaking of Early Startup, if you are using a wireless M&K then it may
be necessary to either keep clicking both mouse buttons or (in my case)
tapping on the Scroll Lock key to get to it. Seems that at least the
first click or keypress does not get recognized in many cases.

So, if you do use the early startup and select the Boot With No Startup
Sequence, you will not start the USB stack and will be using Bootmouse
and Bootkeyboard. Of course you can start the stack from the CLI.
