@mbrantley

Tough call.
Does it make sense to stand still for two or three years on the PowePC OS version and hope that you have any market in three years for your new X86 version ? .

One way could be development in parallel either with PCI X86 cards for current developers powepc machines or powerpc cards for developers X86 machines .

Or new OS API not backwardly compatible with old software, designed for multiple CPU architectures.

Or sink or swim with powerpc. If you are visible enough the powerpc may lend a hand in designs .

Frankly, I do wish AmigaOS 4.x (my favorite variant in our little world) could run on cheap and powerful x86 hardware, and if it did I'm certain Hyperion would sell more copies than they do now even if some pirated copies made the rounds.

But, given how slow development is in this same little world, it would take years and years and a whole lot of money to make that happen. We lack both manpower and money even where we have the will.

As expensive as the X1000 is, I've decided it'll be easier and a whole lot more exciting to spend those hard-earned bucks now and enjoy what I get rather than wait years for what may never come.

@tibby.dude

If you're interested in AmigaOS on x86 then it more or less exists already in the form of AROS, and it's not limited to just expensive AMD CPUs.

My vote goes for universal PCI card and AmigaOS 4.2 able to use RadeonHD from PCI-E, RAM and dedicated hard drive partition of existing hardware. Software box provided for Linux, MacOS X, Windows XP and Rasberi Pi

@Hondo

Red and white squares are hard to do on hair.

But with bald head and tattoo...

@spectre660

Better to do the portable SW+drivers bedfore major platform change.

And at the same time I think it would be good idea to inform Freescale that our niche exist. They could easily put a PowerVR to some e6500 based chip...
Better than that would require partnering with AMD, I think. I think there is 1% chance that next gen games consoles might put some pressure to develop PPC with built in good GPU, but I'm 99% sure it does not happen ... but the 1% is left there for miracle to happen.

@KimmoK

Success will be to unite the powerpc hordes ,Linux,Amiga OS .Morph OS and Aros, to use any new powerpc motherboards .

interestingly I was reading about Freescale targeting the server market with PPC parts today.

Seems you can still buy G4 servers and there's more to come.

@Metalheart

Exactly....

Trying for economies of scale in a small market.

When the low end of the notebook and lower end PC's start to shift from Intel to Arm (Apple and Microsoft) there will be a rebellion against Intel and a chance for powepc and Mips to try to get some of the action .
The CPU revolution will be no different from any other uprising in history

@wawa

Sure there is, but can it be consider pop-culture? After Jackson's work on LoTR you may throw The One Ring and almost everyone will get it.

Wow this is really a boring blog if you want news from AOS or even the clones. And I waited for this for a whole month in the vague hope of some news about OS 4.2 or some of the other stuff going on...sigh

Trevor never do this to me again

That would come from the Hyperion blog, not the A-Eon blog.

"ask Hyperion", remember?

The Live DVD is about to go gold and will contain the customised version of SuperTuxKart along with a demo of Hyperion Entertainment's Gorky 17 game.

gorky 17 is as much a hyperion game as heretic, quake or descent, it was developed in poland. since when simply porting a game to a platform counts more than actually developing it? especially that the port hasnt even been finished and released as far as i remember? however this is not a particularly big loss, as who played the demo has actually seen most of the game.
