I've just mailed the Xorg ATI developers mailing list sending this
http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-driver-ati/2013-February/024409.html

The mail was screwed up by the mailing system as it stripped off all the new line characters, resulting in a pretty unreadable message.

Looking around in the Xorg website I've noticed a page for debugging the Xorg server:
http://wiki.x.org/wiki/Development/Documentation/ServerDebugging

Please, have a careful look at such page and, and follow the instruction to install the debugging software.
To do so, enter the text console (from the serial console or from the SM502 output).
Enter "sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core-dbg xserver-xorg-video-ati-dbg" to install the debugging packages. The administrator password will be requested in order to proceed the installation.

From now on I don't know much as I'm away from my Sam460, please just try to do something in order to catch some debug info.

For example in the page there is the command "sudo gdb /opt/xorg-debug/Xorg $(pidof Xorg)", please try it and tell me what it does.

Some hints:
- to stop the Xorg server enter "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop";
- to start the Xorg server "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start";

Someone answered your question as follows:

I think the problem here is more along the lines of >32-bit physical
memory and ttm screwing up the physical addresses before mapping the
vram object.

Tony (CC) has some patches to address that part (for use with a 476
which is cache coherent, we got evergreen working on that).

I think he hasn't yet "polished" the patches enough (ie fixed all the
drivers for the change in types) but basically, quite a few places in
there need to store physical addresses in resource_size_t instead of
long's.

@jabirulo

Well, since you're asking, I would prefer if you could provide the debug information coming out of the 3.4.29 kernel.

Meanwhile I'll try contacting Benjamin Herrenschmidt, the guy mentioned in the answer to my message at the Xorg devel mailing list.

@virgolamobile

Ok here is serial output with kernel 3.4.29, by suprise/lucky after 4 minutes the first radeon crahs system keeps loading and then I get another crash (Xorg I suppose).
And after that crash I pressed ALT+CTRL+F4 and as root typed '/etc/init.d/gdm start' to get (hope) Xorg debug.

my kernel loading is:
kernel /boot/uimage3429.img root=/dev/sda1 console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200n8 video=radeon:1024x768-8@60 drm.debug=7

Me again, any progress on HD6000series and linux?

http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1409

On a replay (from Trevor http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1409&start=50#p17832 ) there is a link to a patch (I know is for X1000), but there is some ATI radeon fix/patch (is it of any help?):

@jabirulo

BTW I noticed a machine check exception. Not that's it's directly related but I got one of these on the X1000 recently. I tested a VIA 6212 USB2 card in my X1000 and it caused the RealTek network driver to crash on bootup with a machine check exception. Also Ranger thought the USB2 card was SCSI controller!

Perhaps there is a similar conmfusion going on when Linux boots? I notice it is related to the BIOS microcode loaded. Are these native PPC? And why can it not rely on firrmware initalising the card? Can the microcode be skipped?
