| Hi everybody,
just a question to all SAM users. I connected my SAM to 19" LCD via the enclosed dvi-VGA Adaptor. The video qualitiy, even with very short cables is very bad. It worked way better with my A1200/Bvision OS4 Classic. Of course I just speek about the physical resolution of the LCD.
Any idea how to improve the qualitiy (without buying a DVI LCD) ? Last edited by gerograph on 28-Dec-2008 at 11:55 AM.

Yes, the same here, but my monitor has DVI.
You could try if you get a better signal from the onboard VGA (J25) if you can get a cable, but dont expect too much. |

Use the internal VGA header, the signal quality is much better than the DVI-VGA one. If you need further info about the internal VGA pinout, contact ACube directly. _________________ Massimiliano Tretene, ACube Systems, Soft3 |

Are you using the correct resolution for your monitor? |

Have you checked the tooltypes on your graphics driver? Are they set up correctly for your monitor?

| Yes, DVI looks really good here. I briefly tried the supplied DVI-VGA adapter, and the picture was 'terrible' (although I have not tested VGA input of my monitor with anything else, so it could be my monitor or cables). _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. With something like 800x600 it looks OK, but with 1920x1200 its really bad here. |

| No problems with a dvi adapter here either.

What kind of monitor are you using? Is the native resolution actually 1920x1200? LCD's often turn blurry if you feed it anything besides the native resolution. This has nothing to do with graphics card, OS or computer if that is the case.Last edited by Tomas on 28-Dec-2008 at 08:04 PM.

I am using the native resolution from my LCD of course (1280x1024). I called that "physical resolution". Sorry I am from Germany so might have been the wrong vokabulary further up in this thread... My monitor worked brilliant with the same resolution under BVision and Windows. I also checked Tooltypes and editided the max and min values according to values given in Monitors documentation.
Seems like people with VGA Adaptor have different results. DID ACUBE DELIVER DIFFERENT DVI-VGA Adaptors ???

| I have a Sam440 preordered - my monitor is VGA only and I do not plan to buy a new TFT with DVI any soon. So I am really scared to get this problem.
If this happens, can I solve the problem by fitting a PCI Video card in the slot which has VGA out? If yes, which video card would work? _________________

Why waste money and effort (and your only PCI slot) on another VGA output, just do what Max suggested further up this thread and use the internal VGA header directly.

Can you define bad quality?
Do you get noise lines running across the screen? Are there shadows of text? Are the pixels blurred? Are the colours wrong? Is the screen mis-aligned horizontally or vertically?
@thread
Those DVI-VGA adaptors are dumb. They contain no active components, they just route signals. They provide Analogue RGB, Hsync, Vsync , DDC and ground.
The DVI-Analogue connection is the same video signal as that on a VGA port. In the Nvidia and ATI reference designs I have seen, the RGB Video DAC that is used to drive the VGA port can also be used as the Analogue DVI output.
A lack of RGB ground could cause issues with video but the C5 connection of the DVI connector provides this.

I would have no idea what sort of connector I would use to do that. Also, wouldnt that require that the VGA cable goes INSIDE the case? Or I'm mistaken?

Yes. But i dont have a problem with that, i only noticed the bad signal quality because U-Boot for SAM does not yet support DVI-D. So i have used VGA to update/setup U-Boot and to install OS4.1. Now its connected to my monitor with a DVI-D cabel. |

So on UBoot signal is bad, but once you install OS4.1, then picture is ok? _________________
