Sheesh, who got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning?

I thought you had had this machine for weeks or even months? Is this the first time you've had problems?

Talk to me privately, maybe I can help.

Sounds like you got a defect board. I never had any graphical glitches at all except for that known green screen problem in some games. I also use composition and absolutely no problems.
Sounds to me like your board is defect which can happen in pc world from time to time as well.

I had these problems. About the video loss, try installing the 4.0 theme instead of 4.1. If your using a video A/B video switch box, unhook it and run the video straight to the monitor.

Lots of people seem to have problems with the Flex, since OS4.1 was not designed with it in mind. I think you're going to have to have patience for Hyperion to release a fix

BUT, if you have had these problems since the Flex arrived, you might like to check that all the components are properly seated (by removing & reinserting them firmly, of course after turning power off & taking anti-static precautions). For example the RAM module & gfx-card.

But before doing that, if you have two RAM modules installed (giving 1GB RAM), then try removing one as that can apparently help. (However it sounds like you only have 512MB installed so far.)

@All

As others here have just pointed out to me the Flex seems to be picky about the power supply that it runs on. Since the power draw is apparently so low on the 3.3 volt line it may not start or the voltages might be off it the PS isn't properly loaded.

I am trying to find the correct Mini power supply to run my flex, or a suitable dummy load. Keep trying, the Sam Flex is a great little board once you get it running right.

Is that how you solved your video loss problem by choosing the 4.0 theme instead of 4.1 on install ?

@Drex

This worked for me. Seemed like it could have been the transperancy when I clicked on a box to move it the screen would go black. I read in another thread you had a problem with clicking buttons and having the box behind come foward. I had this problem after changing keyboards, so I went back to the old keyboard. Some things can be funny like that. It didn't matter if I had a HDMI connection or use the VGA adapter. It works for me and I'm happy with that. Now is just the process of making certain games and programs work such as Warp-emu stuff.

A few thing that you can try.

(1) Turn of Compositing
(2) Disable the screenblanker
(3)Add +RB to mode lines in Radeon Monitor tooltypes for any mode higher than 1280x1024
(4) Change Wbpattern prefs for windows to
Dither qulity = Best
Color quality = Best
Layout = Scale well

Thanks, I did read your advice on earlier threads, it worked for a while but eventually the problems returned. I have done an absolute re-install including a re-format. early days but the intface looks better with no glitches. Of course I will now have problems with my old SW.

@acefnq

Then check out software that works on a sam440ep from a fellow user who tests this stuff, er me. check out my signature for the website, and go to the listings page.

haha, also, the fact that you had glitches on a sam440ep, impresses me, as I havent had any like that serious, infact, the moment I turned off 3dcompositing, all my problems went away in that area.

as for the games being green screen, please fellow amigan people, be aware, I also had green screen, but after some tender loving care and fiddling on the particular games, I managed to get rid of it via the Video / graphical settings within those games.

One of them being quake 3 by memory. Still ran slowish though.

Cheers.

Thanks that was one problem I worked out earlier. I have done a complete reinstall and things are looking better now (fingers crossed).

The same was true for me. I had to turn off transparency, remove one 512MB memory card (leaving 512MB) and have now removed all WBStartup programs. The grapics corruption is gone but I am plagued with system freezes.

Does the system *really* freeze, or does the USB mouse & keyboard stop working? If you still have music playing and/or the clock updates itself, then probably just the USB has died (I get this occasionally on my non-Flex Sam, waiting for fixed USB drivers from Hyperion).

I've been hearing this a lot in the Yahoo User Group. I didn't know this was that common with the new SAMs.
The USB optical mouse/keyboard driver is even a little wobbly for the A1. I use the PS2 mouse/keyboard mostly.

I've been trying to determine that myself. I will try the clock to see if it updates because I didn't think of that. I did try writing a short program that prints some text in a console every 10 seconds but that stops when I get a freeze. Then I tried a short program that reads a hard-disk directory every 10 seconds so I could look for the disk LED to continue flashing. The LED stops flashing when I get a freeze. So far it does appear that the system *really* freezes. I'll try some more tests but it doesn't look hopeful.

I also found a way to reproduce freezes without being online. I open AmiPDF and load the DH0:Documentation/Python/Amiga Python.pdf file. Then I press "Next" after each page is displayed. If I make it through all 11 pages without a freeze, I press "First" and start pressing "Next" again. Eventually it will freeze and I have never made it through all 11 pages twice.

Interesting.

Just tried this and went back and forth between all 11 pages about five times in a row and no problems.
