As someone who was a OS3.5 and 3.9 beta tester and who owned an Amigaone before selling it to a certain T Dickinson :) I would love to get back into the Amiga scene but I know I could never justify another desktop.

What I dream of is a mid powered Amiga Netbook/mini laptop with a spec like an Acer Ferrari1 (with a PPC CPU LOL).something I can use when away from Home, watch videos, catch up on television (BBC Iplayer), play on line flash games. Oh back to dream land again. Now that is my dream Amiga I just wish someone would make a proper mini Amiga :)

MOD EDIT: Thread title changed to match O.P.'s original intent which he later stated as:

"Well K to clarify I was asking about a PPC laptop running Amiga Os 4.X"

@tommywright

MorphOS has basic flash support thanks to Fab and his swf2dec OWB plugin.

AROS is clearly the future and runs on a lot of netbooks and laptops.

It's easy enough to do - go buy a $25-$50 laptop off of eBay, beg/borrow/steal a copy of Amithlon, dig up the install instructions on the web, and there you go.

You're out of luck for chipset emulation, I'm afraid.

@TheDungeonDelver

The problem is, many people just want to buy a laptop and use it, not fark around.

Cheers

I think the easiest way to get AmigaOS running on a laptop is to use Amiga Forever but it won't run AmigaOS 4.x and up. The Sam440ep is the smallest board which will do the job but it is far from a laptop.

There are also some Amiga-ish clones out there which others have already mentioned as well but that is a topic for AltOS and not the "Amiga OS4 Hardware" forum.

"Acer Aspire One + AROS"

+1

There should be Genesi ARM notebook + AROS available soon as well.
And MOS is being ported to Apple laptops, but it will take some time.

I hope we see some possibility to run AOS4 on a laptop one day...
to get a decent PPC laptop we would need a big HW partner.
(for example some company that does x86 laptops but is also willing to support laptop parts for a niche, demoing AROS performance to Acer people might pave the way to better support and interest for wider co-operation, IIRC, Acer is the world biggest laptop brand today.)
If we wanted to use old ApplePowerBookG4 laptops, we should collect $$$$$ to Acube&Hyperion to continue moana etc.

Easiest way to get PPC AOS4 on a laptop might be via using PPC emulation on x86. (dolphin/wii emulation, Apple rosetta, $$$$$$ to finance BerniethlonPPC)

@persia

AOS3.9, MOS and AOS4 are ahead of AROS in features and in the number of available native SW.
But unless something changes, it is possible that AROS catch up & go ahead.

@all
The guy specifically mentions PPC and posts to the OS4 hardware forum...

I'm hoping for an AmigaOS4 capable laptop as well.

An OS4 laptop should be possible but not at small prices like you have today so (again) people would say it's overpriced

Aros is the right "mobile" future....it runs on all kinds of cheap and much faster hardware....
We just neet to wait for some killer apps....

This should be a given. It is scandalous there is still no official Amiga laptop solution 25 years on!!! Commodore had LCD technology in 1984 and gave it away on the advice of Tandy!!!!

Well I know I am biased on the Atom based Netbooks but Aros is the only way at the moment.

OH, and I have sent michal a new board with the new generation Atom chip with GPU on board. If he is successful then you will be able to use the next generation Atom netbooks

@elwood

Netbooks are used mainly to only browse the web and messenger.A netbook with AmigaOS with firefox and updated sabremsn could sell very well outside the Amiga community so you could run very large batches and thus very low prices

@Fransexy

This is very true, but I also use mine for watching movies, new fullscreen mode really helps here, youtube, downloading images from camera to free space and view and many other things.

Once wifi is ready in September Aros and netbook/laptops will be all system go.

edit: With WIFI and AMC, wow what a little Media machine.
