@djrikki
That's a silly question to ask, since we don't even know the actual price yet. At best you can say "probably yes", but there is no such option in your poll, so I think you'll get a lot of "no"s.

Although X1000 Beta testers can answer "yes" since they've presumably already commited to it...

@ChrisH

I did use the word 'definitely' however. ^.^

Edit: Besides I hate polls with ill-thought out answers with many deriatives of Yes and No.

Clean, simple question.

I didn't vote but I will most likely get it later when/if:

a. It's fully supported
b. I got the money
c. if it's still available

@djrikki

I know one thing for sure. I won't be one of the first in line to buy it. I was one of the first folks to own a Micro-A1, which was an expenssive and major pain to get going (problem getting compatible PSU, memory, etc.).

Things I would need to know before getting an AmigaOne X1000 is how fast and stable is AOS4 running on it, how are folks leveraging or planning to leverage the special hardware included on it to see if there are innovative uses that makes getting a pricy custom mobo worth it. Obviously, knowing the price would also be a nice start.

I'm not going to buy an expensive custom mobo again just to run AOS4 unless it and/or 3rd party AOS4 developpers leverage the custom XMOS hardware in new and innovative ways. I already have one of those boat anchors gathering dust in my office, I don't need a second one of these.

I think a poll that allows for real-world shades of grey (as in "probably yes" as well as "definitely yes" etc) provides more useful answers... In this case you've just forced all the shades of grey into the "no" category (at least if you take the question literally).

I don't really like systems with big tower cases anymore. Something like Efika (with more mem, as it's nowadays more affordable, maybe also onboard well supported gpu) with cheap case as standard would be nice.

After so many "not so cheap" systems something more affordable would have been nice...

IMHO the XMOS stuff is just a cool bonus (which got blown out of all proportion to what A-Eon intended), and the most important thing about the X1000 is it's CPU: 1.8Ghz dual-core (and fast memory bus to match), which should make it (up to) 2-4 times faster than a Sam460, and up to 4-8 times faster than a Sam440 (depending on whether the dual-core is used not).

And indeed, Trevor has apparently said the CPU is the main reason for the X1000 costing so much (something like 400-500 euros just for the CPU).

Yes, this is important. Luckily the Beta testers should ensure it runs well before the proper release.

The original AmigaOnes were rushed pieces of hardware, and as a result quite buggy. Sam440s seem much much better.

No.

Too expensive for what you get. Maybe I'll get it used in x years, but I doubt it.

@elatour

I haven't owned an Amiga since '96/97, but nevertheless I can fully appreciate all those concerns. We of course have to hope that A-Eon does a much better job of it - especially those hardware problems you had to endure.

Yeah the price is of course the big issue for many, but I am sure there are still a lot of people out there with disposable income.

@ChrisH

The CPU.

Yeah the speed is a big factor for me, never need to upgrade again. Anything approaching 2ghz is more than faster enough for the current generation of users (across all systems) including me.

Given you aren't even interested in OS4, I don't know why you bothered even responding. That would be like Mac fan responding they won't buy a PC - not exactly a big surprise, no matter how nice the machine may be.

I answered Yes because that is my clear intention. However, I think a Maybe would have lessened the number of No in the poll....

Oh well. That's too bad. Then I guess I won't be buying one until/if that "cool bonus" stuff actually turns into something interesting that Hyperion will choose to support somehow through included APIs for AOS4 and also hopefully by other 3rd paties developping for AOS4.

@djrikki

Other thing I forgot to mention, which someone else reminded me of, is that another real turn off for me is the need to have the device anchored to a desk. For me this is non-starter these days, I'm way too mobile, and a tower/desktop system for ANY OS flavour or platform has not been on my radar for over 7 years now and not likely to ever make it back on. Having said this, I can understand why A-EON or any other small custom mobo PPC maker is not jumping at the opportunity to make a laptop system with such a small market, whcih would be astronomically expenssive to design and produce for them, not to mention purchase by any prospective clients.

@elatour

For now I don't think I will buy one. I need the money and I don't have the space for it. So may be in 2012 and the price is not that great since I am a student I can't waste money for expensive toys(since I don't need it, it would be a toy which I would use in my free time). So when my studies end(summer 2011) and I get a good job I will consider one.

Adding more grey areas to the mix. What about the Nemo Beta boards? People can't exactly buy these when they come out. Or you could say this board is out now as people can buy into the programme.

If I ended up Finding Nemo on my desk, , would I be yes or no? Okay I've added enough confusion. And fish jokes.

@djrikki

This doesn't make sense because most people aren't going to buy ANY computer. When they answer no, it looks like they're rejecting the X1000. The question should read, "If you're buying a computer, will it be an X1000?" The only one's participating in the poll would be those planning on buying a computer. I'm not buying any computer in the near future, so I didn't take the poll; my answer would be no.

No. For $2000USD I can buy four or five good desktops and maybe throw in a laptop as well and run WinUAE or Amithlon on all of them and get a larger base of Amiga software, as well as full warranties, support, etc.
