Commodore Amiga was great computer of the past. I don´t think that anyone has "moral" right to use this name for its own products now (even Amiga.Inc/Hyperion).
For new computers, Amiga One is better in my point of view. |

Commodore Amiga died in 1994. When Escom picked up the Amiga, they recognised the problem with the brand was entirely in the word Commodore, for which they didn't bother to buy the rights. MOS, AROS, and OS4.x have a rivalry (sometimes friendly, sometimes not) as Amiga like, not C= like systems. Resurrecting the Commodore name is like retro fitting a starting handle to my 2000 Ford Mondeo because my old model Y had one. _________________ When in trouble, fear or doubt, run in circles, scream and shout. |

ESCOM bought Commodore marks and assets, but they decided to separate the Amiga brand from Commodore's one. Even Commodore UK, who also tried to buy Commodore International before ESCOM, had the same intention.
I think the decision was due to the fact that the Commodore brand was linked to failure and mismanagement of the company; they wanted to free the Amiga brand from this, and at the same time use the C= mark to sell PCs. _________________ A1200/020+68882 - 6 MB RAM - AmigaOS 3.0

| Commodore is a Brand name but AmigaOne is an official product name designated by Amiga.Inc as the nextGen (i.e. current generation) Amiga's.
so I chose pancakes given that you could there fore have a "Commodore AmigaOne X1000"
*edit* I also believe that the brand of the AmigaOne X1000 would be Aeon. Last edited by Panthro on 26-Sep-2010 at 11:09 AM.

”Commodore” is the company name, Amiga is the product name, 500 is model number. “Aeon” is the company name “AmigaOne” is the product name X1000 is the model number.
(company) (product name) (model ) Commodore Amiga 500
“Aeon” is the company name “AmigaOne” is the product name X1000 is the model number.
(company) (product name) (model ) AEON AmigaOne X1000
“Sony” is the company name “Playstation” is the product name 2 is the model number.
(company) (product name) (model ) Sony Playstation 2
Question 1: Is AmigaOne and Amiga the same product?
Question 2: Is Amiga computers per definition AGA/ECS based computers?
Question 3: Is Draco an Amiga?
Question 4: Does the Commodore name have any value in 2010? (What does people remember the good the bad the ugly?)

You know there hasn't been the hollow threats from Hyperion I would have expected by now. Is it possible Big Ben Aussie is in negotiations to sublicense the Amiga name to them in some sort of non-exclusive deal? |

CUSA don't have the license rights to do that.
Mr. Ben van Wijhe of Asiarim could be in negotiation with Hyperion to sublicense whatever brand names Asiarim holds rights to, yes. But not CUSA, since the license they have is limited to producing keyboard computers in C=64 lookalike cases, according to this press release.
@Darth_X
I'd think: 'I hope Trevor didn't pay money to use the Commodore name...'
The only benefit would be in avoiding confusion between the mysterious CUSA Amigas and the X1000, and I'm not sure that's going to happen anyway.
That's not to say I wouldn't prefer a different brand for the X1000, though. Of course just 'Amiga X1000' would be best, but I'd be happier with 'PowerAmiga' or 'Lorraine' too. |

incorrect in the strictest sense the current Generation of Amiga's (the AmigaOne) as designated by Amiga.Inc themselves are the current Amiga's.
your statement is no different to say car enthusiasts disowning a model they dislike only they dont try to insist that it's reality _________________

| Commodore is remembered for the C64, and some telephones and shredders. Commodore was the owner of the Amiga rights for less than 10 years, Amiga had been developed without Commodore, Amiga survived without Amiga. Why should anybody want to bring back a brand with a bad reputation? That would be like renaming Warner to AOL.

| The time before commodore went on to windows and concentrated on amiga a case is interesting. Now i dont see why i should have a commodore case for my x1000 later on. I mean totally different people with same name with different goals. Lets say Steve Jobs buys commodore. Why would i want to use his case ? Nothing to do with my later x1000 that runs os4.x. For how many years have commodore had nothing to do with amiga. Strange thing to want a commodore case :) Ill just continue and use my amigaos on AmigaOne until i buy X1000.
Ok i respect folks that wants to feel nostalgic and want one. Maybe its just to remove the x1000 hardware and put in a commodore case ? Its pricey but its a way. |

Commodore is ancient history and its name should have nothing to do with the modern Amiga, namely AmigaOne, Sam, etc. and Amiga OS4.
The Commodore name is just 80's, the Commodore 64/128 etc. Noone announced they had a Commodore Amiga, it was just Amiga.
At least IMHO.
Just as little as I would announce I have Hyperion Amiga OS4 or Eyetech AmigaOne. I just have an AmigaOne with Amiga OS4. Period _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

Asiarim own the Commodore name, so the best Hyperion could get out of them is Commodore AmigaOne. For the Amiga name they'd have to negotiate with Amiga Inc (unless CUSA has a better deal with them than they do with Asiarim, but the press release seems to indicate they have the same deal with Amiga Inc that they do with Asiarim)
Since Amiga Inc, rightly or wrongly, believes that Hyperion was deceptive in their dealing with them (to put it mildly), I suspect Amiga Inc would rather license the name to virtually anyone but them. |

There has been a slight addition to a new article a few hours ago. Otherwise, the content is the same as the article from MarketWatch.
Quote:
Commodore USA, LLC is an independent third party and has no affiliation or association with Asiarim and other Commodore companies other than the limited brand license agreement for the Build-in Keyboard computer. |
Source
Standing by itself, it serves as a clarification of the relationship. Please note the "other Commodore companies", as I believe that is relevant.

What was deceptive about Hyperion dealings with Amiga Inc? Genuine question. I thought the court found in Hyperion's favour? |
