Q:10.
PA6T-1682M looks like an excellent processor for X1000, could AmigaOS take advantage of all his features?

A: "Although it’s a 64-bit dual core processor; AmigaOS4 will initially only support one core"

Q:11.
Will QORIQ be the successor?

A:"One step at a time. Although we have ideas for future designs but we need the AmigaOne X1000 to be a success before we can justify additional development expenditure. "

Q:12.
What do you think is the solution for a market so little as Amiga? In my opinion, the price of AmigaOneX1000 could be reduced and that could help Amiga to grow faster again. Don´t you think so?

A:"Unfortunately no. The AmigaOne X1000 is based on the PA Semi CPU. This component alone costs $500 and when you add in development costs and factor in the high cost of low volume manufacturing there is no way to reduce the sales price for the Amiga market."

Q:20.
Is there a fixed and definitive date for the product release?

A:"Not at this time. "

Wow! I'll I have to say is thanks. Honestly Trevor this is one of the best interviews I've seen in the Amiga community in a very long time. Honest answers, no BS and just plain truth. Your cred just jumped a billion fold in my book. I can't understand why this is so hard for companies/people to do in our community. What is there to hide from each other?

Great work.

We also hope it will be of interest to enthusiasts in the XMOS and Linux PPC community.

There wont be much success in the Linux PPC community. Such thing just does not exist. Due to our PowerUP legacy and endianess compatibility, PPC allows continuation from old Kickstart 1.x days without losing binary compatibility but Linux is not carrying legacy like that. Only hard facts matter.

Welcome to AW.net

@AmigaHeretic
+1
Just like you I don't understand the secrecy or lack of communication we have seen from some companies, it's not like company X is listening ready to copy the good ideas and steal the market share.
Amiga market is well defined and that is as a small hobby market, it can grow but then you certainly have to make progress and keep your costumers informed.

Good interview BTW.

That must be the reason there's still at least two major distro's with actively maintained PPC ports, and why Linux has been ported to practically all PPC hardware in existence.

No, but Linux users also encompass people with a strong interest in obscure platforms, hence the wide range of ports to platforms that otherwise wouldn't matter. Where there's a strange platform, there'll be at least one Linux geek insisting on installing Linux on it, whether it makes sense or not.

The Linux market is perhaps the least rational market after the Amiga community, even if it has a very large relatively mainstream segment.

@Trevor

Nice interview. Without any BS and consipacy.

@Derfs

Change words Linux on AmigaOS in that video, and it will be true as well :) Except that amigaos can't be installed on anything, but the same beta in all the areas (2 more weeks).

To be fair most of those questions have already been asked and answered elsewhere.

Personally speaking I want to hear from Hyperion, whats going on with AmigaOS beyond what we know already.

1. Do you have a target release date for Gallium? Assuming it took one AROS guy a year you should have a port sometime around Autumn right or worse case scenario Christmas?

2) Having just got back into AmigaOS I've had a good look around the folders? Any plans to delete Legacy software? Eg. Memacs, Ed, Edit, MagTape(!), Clock (cmon it sucks update it),

3) Any plans to consolidate Prefs into a single application? With an interface something like PrefsCenter on OS4Depot?

Filer intergration, stop using AmigaGuide for X, Y, Z... list goes on.

Silence isn't always golden, we need something juicy we can talk about.

2) there lots god replacement application for things you listed.

About ED, just make an alias in s:shell-startup

alias ed run >nil: notepad

the save and close shell, reopen shell and try ed.

3 ) I hope they are not spending useless amount of time on prefs icons, even if few can be combined in to one, like GUI and Workbench prefs.

He seems like such a nice man, i hope his colaboration with hermans dosn't end it a fist fight or legal threats. The x1000 will be a collectors item for sure, perhaps paul allen or steve wozniak will purchase one?

Look if you want morphos features that lose the spirit of amigaos you should just use morphos.
Next you will be demanding usb2. The cheek!
