| Hi everyone,

This is prototype 4 (or 5...don't remember anymore!)...
Anyway, it's a fully working prototype.
I have tried to keep it a simple, original design, with clean, modern lines.
Please register your interest by emailing me:
amigarulez@hotmail.com
I need to finish off a few things, get it anodised in either black or white and then it should be ready within...TWO WEEKS!
These are hand built so only a few will be made, again first come first served.
Price: I haven't got a clue yet, I have worked on this on and off for years, and a lot of time, money, prototypes and effort has gone into it, will let you know as soon as possible. The first few will probably be made at a loss.
It's entirely made out of brushed aluminium, will be anodised in black or white.
It's very, very light!
I am thinking of including a slim DVD-RW (Bluray on request) SATA maybe a picoPSU 160W with it but it all depends if I can get them in numbers...
Tested with x86 miniITX and flex boards (not all of them!) and with SAM 440ep, 440Flex and 460ex.
The keyboard is a full size, low profile one and will have empty (black) "Windows keys" (basically no Windows logo) so you can put whatever you like.
Possibility of localised keyboard.
For AmigaOS users I am planning to get the two A silk screened on them, this will depend on cost and I'll keep you informed.
The lettering on the case (X500 PLUS, NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK and SCROLL LOCK should also be silk screened, i.e. no stickers.)
Well...enjoy the photos and thank you for your support.

Once in the early stages I've mentioned my concerns about getting the heat out of the machine. For some stupid reason I thought this was going to be another 'plastic' case. Now that I know that it's made from aluminium then that whole temperature thing is no reason for concern.
I must admit that I didn't carefully read the previous threads about this subject so maybe I'm asking for the already known but here I go: Why is the optical drive on the left side of the case?
Oh I like the case especially as it is made from a real material . _________________ Back home... |

>>Why is the optical drive on the left side of the case?
On the right side it would have compromised the SAM440ep and SAM440Flex, they have vertical memory modules.
This way the case works with all three SAMs.
I am a fan of aluminium cases, Lian Li and Antec are my favourite manufacturers and it's so light, weight of the case at around 2kg without brackets and other bits...

Looking good but I think it needs better ventilation, especially if some customers will be putting more powerful AMD or Intel hardware or a mid range video card in there.
My Hiper Media Chassis has a mesh material above where CPU and Video card live, It's only 53mm high but I have a Core2 @1.8 and a Radeon 4670. A 160watt PSU should cope with that kind of setup. |

Hi Rob,
I am not sure if you can see it from the picture but on the right side there is the "X500 PLUS" name, it's laser cut and the letters act as air vents.
It seems to be ok with the AMD E350 fusion, temperature wise, I might add some more vents but we'll see.
I don't really want to cut the top, as it keeps any coffee/coke spillage away!
I'd like to know what you think about the left USB/Audio ports.
I am thinking of replacing them with a 3.5" cut out for 3.5" card readers... _________________ www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk |

Thanks, appreciated...
@NutsAboutAmiga
An all aluminium case should give good heat dissipation, the letters on the right side X500 PLUS are really acting as air vents.
Basically this was a proof of concept project and to see if I, as a single person without financial backing could push myself to achieve what many wanted, an Amiga with inbuilt keyboard inspired case, the A500 shape is the most suitable.
Expansion cards can be used, you can't in a similar Cybernet all in one for example. Glad you like it.
What about the use of a 3.5" card reader instead of the USB/Audio ports on the left side? Someone might even want to try and put a 3.5" floppy disk drive!
Colour? Silver, white or black? Let me know. _________________ www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk |

Wow! The X500 is a cross breed between two of my favorite platforms, the Amiga500 and the Odyssey2.

My preference would be black.
Just a quick question, I have my Sam440ep with a Radeon 9250, would this fit in the case with the addiction of a second HD?
Just wondering how much space for expansion, if you could give an idea of what will fit in the case.
If it will fit my Sam440, Radeon and a second HD sign me up now. _________________ 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1FE Sam460cr + OS4.1FE |

Hi,
I have just finished installing the SAM440ep I have and my PCI 9250 using a flexible riser card, the card sits horizontally, then I have got a 2.5" SSD 60GB and there might just be enough space for a second 2.5" drive, maybe even a third but I'll check that.
Is your SAM440EP the one with the vertical or horizontal ATX PSU connector? _________________ www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk |
