From Steven Solie website:

Quote:
I received my AmigaOne X1000 system on Tuesday, September 20 after it had been held captive by Canadian customs for an extra day or so. It has been a long journey since I first got wind of this “most ambitious project” years earlier. Thanks to a bunch of lawyers, the model name on the case reads “AmigaOne” but at its heart beats the original Amiga operating system (AmigaOS) which has evolved significantly since its debut in 1985.

Looks really nice thos board and the box! It has great potential!

It's just so sad the keyboard doesn't even have the most basic multimedia keys, like play/stop and volume

But then again, I need my swedish keyboard anyway so....

@Shufflepuck

Config looks very decent, A-EON and Varisys touch is nice, as well as selection of components. Its good to know OS 4.2 is progressing.

Yes. even these X1000 events are about year late its much better to have it released with updated AmigaOS 4.2 then having it with OS 4.1.2 that was only possibly solution a year ago. Everything good takes time.

@Shufflepuck

There's something in back that looks like an optical audio output. Is it? That would save a lot of wires.

@thinkchip

You mean the S/PDIF connector? It's used to transmit DD 5.1 and PCM with a S/PDIF cable -> Optical (or RCA).

@Shufflepuck

Nice article and photos. I hope Amiga OS4.2 will really use that hardware, i think multicore support can wait but sata2, RadeonHD, RAM must be supported to the max.

Assuming you mean ">2GB supported", I cannot see that happening too soon. Too many things depending on memory allocator returning a pointer that maxes out at 2GB.

Of course the extra ram could be used in some other ways (like ram disk, or maybe even swapping the memory to "unusable" ram instead of HD - that might even be doable with MMU!)

On the other hand, 2GB is quite a lot already. Except on many other operating systems, of course

@retro

In 2001 (I think) the old plan by Fleecy Moss was:

OS 4.2:

1. Hardware-independancy
2. New printer system

OS 4.5:

- New Workbench
- improved intuition.library

OS 5.0:

- SMP
- ACM and streaming system to bring a new datatypes system
- Closely-integrated 2D and 3D API
