A1-500 Battery

Hi Everyone,

The last couple of days, my A1-500 (Sam 460) has been giving me random grim reapers. Over alot of different programs, even AREXX gave a grim reaper. Now, I remember when I had the A1-XE, that means the battery was dead or almost dead.

So, while I was in the store today, I went ahead and bought the battery, got it home and changed it out in the A1-500.

Guess what, now everything is fine, been using the computer for half the day, not a single grim reaper. I thought this was only an A1-XE problem and had nothing to do with the A1-500. Is it possible if the battery was dead it would make the A1-500 act strange?

Anyways, it is running great again, so I am not complaining!

Yogi

Can you give an example? Like to see the crashlog.

Last week it was hot here. I did an update and then was getting red alerts. It came back at random it seemed after fresh boots. And then, Hurrican would freeze after the unpacking screen. Now it's cooler, all has been fine.

Really!? I don't recall anything about this. The only thing I have seen with a dead or dying battery is machine that acts dead and won't boot.

I wasn't aware the Sams had the same hardware battery issues. But perhaps you could take the battery out tell us if it acts strange?

@Hypex

I didn't grab the crashlog. It didn't occur to me at the time to do it. If this ever happens again, I will grab them.

The computer has been on all night, and this morning, it is running perfectly. Whatever was going on, that battery swap fixed it. It is rock solid again.

That was the battery acube put in there when I bought it, I think it has been two years now. Maybe the bad battery corrupted the BIOS memory?

Oh I always save the crashlog. I'm obsessed with them. I like to have proof that some program crashed so I can submit bug reports.

That's possible. If it's keeping the NVRAM and the voltage fluctuates then it could spoil the lot.
