Anyone who has been watching Trevor's speech at Amiwest a few moments ago knows that there will be a lot of pushing towards the creation of new software, which includes both ports (such as Open Office (or was it Libre Office?)) and original software. Obviously, from Trevor's perspective this would hopefully mean that more X1000 and the upcoming X5000 are sold. Assuming the X5000's price is as prohibitive as much as the X1000 (if not more), the only option for many of us who want to keep enjoying OS4 would be the Sam460 board, which although is still very expensive, when compared to the X1000's, the price does not "look so bad".

Thing is, will the Sam460 be fast enough to run these new programs which are being developed? Or will users of this machine feel somewhat left out from the party?

@Everblue
Libreoffice works good on a raspberry pi which has only 1/6 of the cpu power of a sam460. So don't worry it will fly.

@Everblue
Don't worry: )
Even the sam460 with atihd has still a bit room to get better(by software). Especially if 3d will work at some point.
I will need to contact acube again about the new 460cr.
I have a sam440@733 and even this one has 3-4times more cpu power than the pi. More than enough for office and games from the 2000-2004 era.

I will try to bring new ports and software to os4 as well and since i own a 440 i will take care about that ; )

Earlier today I did email Comsytec and they don't really have the boards in stock. And they also told me that the prices do not include Amiga OS4.1.

So you have to add another 120 Euro or so on top. Not cool.

I will update the Ares PPC asap , my target price is 999 € including worldwide shipping, os4.1 and a voucher for indiego appstore. (A good looking case, psu, harddrive, dvd rw, gpu, soundcard included as well)

Take this with salt because morphos is not ready:

http://www.amigafuture.de/viewtopic.php?t=33660

This time it will be also more attractive in terms of price. The psu of that old model costs as much as a hd + graphiccard... i thought if you buy something special you shouldn't put it in a breadbox : )

@marko

Question is what version of the Radeon HD driver will be on the Sam460cr OS4.1 CD.
with no sm502 you won't be able to boot OS 4,1 if you have a Radeon HD 5xxx or higher card with the current driver on the Sam460ex CD .

@phoenixkonsole

This thread is not about you, or any of your products. Honestly. I know the thread title totally makes it look like this is all about you, but it isn't. I swear.

Btw you made it now about me. The thread is now again about drivers, just keep it flowing.

@cgutjahr

For most of the software I've used, the Sam460 has plenty of speed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3JbzW3l-NE

However, we wouldn't know yet how fast future software will be until it is used.
Even if the software runs fast on another platform, that platform may be using co-processors and natively programmed software dependencies to achieve good speed.
