Not that it matters much to anybody, but I've asked MikeB to delete my account at Amigaworld.net. Of course I've had good conversations here and enjoy many of the people. But the moderation policies that seem to favor certain points of view are intolerable to me. See you at the other sites.

Too bad it had to come to this as in the past you were rather nice to discuss with.

You complained to me about not getting the last word within a recently locked thread.

1) I did not know you wanted to post.
2) Since the discussion had become personal I locked the thread.
3) First I removed it solely from the frontpage for people not to whine about getting the last word or not.

The thread had turned off topic and your accusations are without basis. I haven't waited for a certain person to post messages before locking the thread, that's pure coincidence (and paranoia) and in fact I haven't bothered reading the last messages within that thread at all.

See this thread on A.org:

Theres nothing wrong with a bit of moderation. Everyone is doing it. It helps stop flamewars thats all.

If a non-smoker went to a smokers resturant and felt offended that the smokers did not see things his way and asks "why don't you stop smoking" only to be told to stay quiet, then does he have a right to shout "bias"?

Poeople have chosen their side of the Amiga market and they tend to 'hang around with others that also share the same veiws. Thats all.'

@Gary_C

I have mixed feelings about this, on the one hand I will miss many
of your contributions to debates but on the other hand you recently
said more or less that you only came here to "correct" AmigaWorld.net
users perceptions of Genesi, Pegasos, Phoenix and the opposing point of view
which seems to me to be already a fighting mentality.

I have to say, that I think a couple of people on this site should
have been censured by the moderators and perhaps have been in private
told to calm it down.

However, perhaps after a while you and the world outside AW will
have calmed down to the point where the realise the "war"
is pointless, unimportant and a distraction from time spent on what
we should be doing - helping each other and actually using and
enjoying our Amigas and alternative platforms and discussing
them.

It would be nice, and for me that is what Amigaworld.net should
be about - using, owning, helping and discussing Amiga hardware
and software.

Since the account is still active, I'll take this opportunity to clarify.

I'd like to think I still am.

No no no. I didn't want "the last word." I simply wanted a chance to respond to the points of someone arguing with me in a thread. There's a huge difference, which I've explained at least a couple of times and I'm sure you can understand.

in fact I haven't bothered reading the last messages within that thread at all.

Which, as I mentioned in the PM to you, makes me wonder how in the world you can lock a thread that you haven't even read completely. All I've asked for is even-handed treatment (I'm not against moderation per se, which of course even exists over at ann.lu and moobunny in one form or other), but in a couple of threads here recently I've found myself being either misquoted, insulted or my points responded to with bogus information or thinking . . . and then the thread is locked after the other person's point of view is expressed (perhaps not uncoincidentally in support of "the red team") and I had no way to respond without starting a new thread to complain/carry on the argument, which makes me look like a kid throwing a tantrum instead of a reasonable adult.

Further, after PMing the Moderator, I've been told to "get a life," "grow up," "stop wining" (all exact quotes) and so on. That's why I think I need to bow out here. For some reason, things just seem stacked against certain points of view/ways of thinking.

OK, had a quick look.

This person was not replying to your messages within those final postings and neither was he reffering to you.

You seem to want to get the last word on the points that matter to you.

I knew the discussion was off topic and personal and that was enough justification I needed.

insulted

All you have to do is contact me privately and point me to where you were being insulted. Then I have several options, for instance I can remove the content from public view and ask this person to continue the discusion privately.

And I find it normal for someone to tell someone else to "get a life," "grow up," or "stop whining" *privately* when this person persists on making wild accusation against you personally.

Not that I give a s**t but message like that on public forum is not
good practise. Thread was moderated away from front page but still...

@ itix

I agree, for someone like gary_c to start a clear troll thread like "Amigaworld.net earns its reputation again" is not good practise.

My reply would have been read by almost nobody if not for you and Gary_C pointing to it. Anyway Gary_C seems eager to point people to the fact that I told him to "grow up" in private in reply to his accusations as well anyway.
