| It seems it will be a solution of hardware and software, it consists of a PCMCIA card that incorporates the following elements:
*- 1 dongle with an unique identification number (UIN), which allow to fight against the piracy and provided access to the Amiga User Network. The access to the Amiga networt allows a continued update of the system and access to one extends variety of open source Software. In this way, Amiga consolidates an intermediate policy between the open source software required by the Amiga Community and the normal policies of an enterprise so as to obtain benefits from its activities that guarantees the continuity of the company.
* -1Gb of flash memory, where the preinstalled system will reside and that permit initial almost instantaneous starting. Thus, the hard disk becomes a secondary storage system.
*- 68030 + 32Mb ram for new heUAE “hardware enhanced Universal Amiga Emulator”, includes as part of the system, that guarantees the access to all classic software.
Apparently it will be available in two weeks. Initialy, it will only support a limited number of chipset´s of PC´s and Notebooks, but, thanks to the information available in the Amiga User Network, we hope the number of chipset´s supported increases remarkable in a short space of time.
It seems this strategy obtained green light the past summer and all the implied parts have kept the secrets about it (amigaone team).
It is hope that in a period of one year 1% of the market of the OS are again for “Amiga” and in a term of five years a 10% of the market are reached; for it, in Amiga User Networks exists a complete Openoffice suite and an enabled navigator to run applications like “google docs” and “Fauxto” with which the operating system is accompanied by the main applications that a PC needs.
It is shown in http://www.amiga.com/amigaos/X86.html

I doubt anything new can be said about the topic. There is the pro-86 guys, the pro-PPC guys, the I-don't-care-just-give-me-hardware guys -with the subgroups give-me-cheap-hardware-I-don't-care-400mhz-cpu and give-me-hardware-up-totoday-pc-specs-. And there is that nasty licensing problem. That's all. |
