| Ok, i've got the impression that a lot of people here are really behind AmigaInc.
I am notbut i'm wondering: Why are you in favour of Fleecy, Bill ...? What have they done or achieved that they earn your belief in them? Why do you think they are going to make it?
No trolling intended. I've been looking for something positive to come from AmigaInc but i didn't find anything. Just wanted to hear the other side of the story. |

Well, I'd like to see them succeed.Quote:

Fair point and I conceed, not a lot. They have, however, decided to bring us(via Hyperion & Eyetech) a new platform. AFAIAC, that was worth my support and still is.

I'm not sure I do. I *hope* they make it, though.

| Some important reasons why I support Amiga Inc.
1) I believe they have formed solid and promising partnerships to make the development of AmigaOS4 a reality. 2) They have bought the Amiga platform from Gateway for 4.5 million USD (AmigaOS source code, brand, including exclusively licensed patents, etc). An achievement no other Amiga-related company would have achieved! 3) I believe in the potential of the AmigaDE and write once run anywhere approach. 4) Amiga has some excellent people amongst their team. |

| There are a few reasons: *I want them to succeed in bringing the Amiga platform forward. I want new Amiga hardware, and new versions of the OS. I want more software. Amiga Inc owns the brand name and IP (like the AmigaOS sourcecode). They appear to have plans for it, so I want them to both survive and thrive. *From my limited knowledge of them, they appear to be friendly people with good intentions who are trying their best. *The unfair animosity towards them from certain individuals (who I have little respect for) makes me sympathize with them. *Their main competitor appears to be aggresive, unfrienly and unsincere. *They are cooperating with Amiga companies which I have much respect for (like Hyperion).
There you go, those are my reasons (as if it was something I needed to justify ).

Well, the site is called www.amigaworld.net and not www.m#r#hos.net !

Hum? what do you means excactly?
Having bought Amiga's copyrights is a positive point Having started AACE (AmigaDE) another Having deals with Microsoft for AACE another Having regular contacts with computer industry leaders another Having restarted the development of a REAL amigaOS another Having the idea to bring AmigaDE to AmigaOS another Having brilliant developers another
See AmgaDE as a system "in progress" (like AmigaOS 4), see that Amiga and his partners can't deliver something good by developping a year or two; every compagny needs more time to bring a complete and working project to life.
See that the momentum is goind;)

| I wouldn't say I am "behind" them all the way, in the sense that I wholeheartedly support all they do. They have certainly not delivered on the things they promised, and their PR has been ... unsatisfactory. But I don't see any reason to be "against" them either. Contrary to many, I fail to see any deviousness here. Of course AInc would have wanted to have released the products they promised already two years ago. To me it's only common sense that no company - no matter if they really do care about the community or not - willingly miss out on means to make profit. The best thing for AInc would of course have been to have a steady flow of products coming out the doors. I'm not happy about how things have turned out, and I don't think they are either. Me writing deragatory comments on websites is not going to help change this current sad state of affairs. Pointing out the obvious time and time again is simply not productive. To make this clear: Critique against AInc is all well - it's healthy that people keep tabs on them, and care enough to comment. But continuously drawing forth the same points over and over and mixing that with a hateful message (hateful? how can anyone be hateful over a bloody hobby computer firm?), isn't helping anybody - AInc will stop listening just as well as the rest of us. . | A inc certainly need to improve PR - and the 10 questions is the first step to do that. But just remember that Gateway had scrapped the idea of further AmigaOS development early on. Escom wanted to continue the Amiga as it had been before, but they had lots of money and facililties. Amiga inc were the ones who decided to restart AmigaOS, and that alone deserves some recognition. _________________

| I like the idea (features etc.) of OS4, so I guess this means I like Amiga Inc!
Note, this does not mean I do not like the alternatives. I just like the features, design idea of OS4. I also think that it has the best chance of success. |

This is something I believe most of us can agree with, including the Amiga Inc team itself. They are doing/preparing various efforts behind the scenes to enhance their Public Relations. For now however they and their partners need to stay focussed on the development process. |

| To have the insight passion and guts to ?take on? the Amiga after so many preceding failures and offer us (me) hope of getting a shiny new Hot Rod Amiga again has my admiration.
I too have not always liked the twists and turns Amiga Inc. has made but this can?t be an easy task at all especially given the recent ?Dot Com? collapse and all the funding issues that must have entailed.
Considering the money, time and talent MS has, it has taken them many years to develop a reasonable Windows operating system with XP ( I don?t have it) and it is far from perfect.
Linux (don?t have this either) is another model to develop an operating system with many talented developers. Seems like it just now getting to be ?user friendly? to non ?geek? types after many years on the street. I?m thinking of Red Hat 8 - dunno about the others.
Given all this I?m not surprised it has taken this long for AOS. The promise is great the waiting is painful. I do hope it will be robust and it will also be ?real soon? now.

| Do I like AmigaINC?
Hmmm... Yes and no. No because they do have some lousey PR ability at the moment, which has stretched their credability a bit, but...
Yes, because, despite everything that has gone wrong, I do think that they are trying to do the best thing, yes they put thier foot in it somtimes (more often the whole leg as well) but I don't think it is an intentional thing. _________________

| When Bill announced that they had bought the Amiga name I was had almost given up. The buyout proved commitment and it is THE most valuable asset left in the amiga community. Much as I love the OS it will not be easy to get anyone else interested in using it without the name (look what happened to BE OS).
In fact I was much more pleased with the idea to build on the classic Amiga OS than the plans Gateway had at the end, and an eventual integration with the hardware agnostic DE seemed like a bold new idea.
I'm also pleased with the fact that they are running this company on a "business like" basis. That means they are working as best they can under the circumstances (Escom thougt they were bigger than they were and went down because of that). This community can't stand another bankruptcy.
I am full of respect for the partners and amiga folk working with them on this project which have given me the hope that this will in truth be a REALLY good product when it's finished.

| I've been impressed with their attitude in general. They've come forward and admitted when things have gone less well, they seem, in my judgement, to be fairly straight up (in between yeehaws!).
That's my take anyhow.

| I'm behind them because they brought AmigaOS back after the last owners made the statement "Classic AmigaOS is dead"
