Hi All,

I have been a member for a while and I check this website every day for many years but have never really posted - "a lurker". Thanks to everyone for making this a great place to visit!

I decided to become more visible, so I wanted to say a belated "Hello" to everyone on AmigaWorld.net!

I am from Adelaide, Australia, and I have and still own many and various Amiga (and other) hardware!

I started using Amiga's in 1988 when I helped my Perth High School's Art department setup an Amiga 1000! My first Amiga was an Amiga 500 in late 1988.

Since then I have owned pretty much every Amiga out there except a CDTV...

At one stage I was part of an Amiga demo group called "The Experience", and we released our last AGA demo "Terminal" in 1998. I think it is available on pouet.net if you are interested! My handle was "Epsilon", hence my name on AmigaWorld.net! My avatar came from our long closed Experience website which I used to run.

At the moment my main completed Amiga hardware is Amiga 4000T/060, Amiga 4000D/PPC-060, Amiga 1200/060, Amiga 2000/030, Amiga 3000D, CD32, and a Minimig. I have a A600 project on the go but the A600 itself died (the second one!) so it is on hold until I find another one. I currently play around with Kryoflux Amiga write support (since reading about it in Amiga Future) and it works great!

I guess this qualifies me as an Amiga Geek!

My Sam 440EP also died recently which I was most upset about as it cost a lot of money and I enjoyed using AmigaOS4. The Sam didn't replace my Amiga classic hardware as it was too slow for E-UAE AGA stuff. I have ordered an even more expensive X1000 to replace it and I am waiting like many others for it! I miss AmigaOS4 and I am keen to get back into it again.

Look forward to seeing you all around in the forums more often.

Catcha,
Epsilon

Glad to have you back on board. Doesn't ACube have a repair service setup? Have you emailed them about your 440?. Let us know when you get your x1000.

I never used amiga's during school. But by grade 4 10 years of age, i was doing all the legwork for my school's it teacher. He would also frequently send me out to teach the teachers and students how to use several applications inc appleworks 2.0 and 'the childrens writing and publishing centre'.
this was all with apple ][+,][e, //c and IIGS' ,
Wow its pretty cool when u sit down and tap in to a memory.

amiga's ? Well they came @ about 20 years of age when i was on the search for something better than 68k mac's.
well, welcome o/

@sundown

I'll certainly let you know when I have my X1000. As for the Sam 440EP - After it failed I got angry with it and let's just say it certainly can never be fixed now....

Probably should have used Acube repair service but didn't know about it at that time! Thanks for letting me know about it anyway.

@Toaks

Thanks to you for the welcome!

I do remember the Mental demo from 2003 - very good. I love demos and have most of them from 1988 onwards for the Amiga and PC

I have added myself to the lurker thread you mentioned also - I thought I should introduce myself before saying I am a lurker!

Thanks for the welcome.

Did you use Microbee's by any chance? I had the misfortune of using a networked setup at school and it was so slow....

LOL sounds like the sort of thing I would do on occassion, now days though, because some things DO cost a fair amount I can usually intervene... usually

Be good if you do get your X1000 etc, I'm seriously looking at any option open to becoming a distributor down south eventually, that might help the cause!

Welcome Mr. Y!

Thanks for great intro!

Again, if Trevor deserves a monument for X1000 bravery, its not only because it is high end Amiga(One), but because it attracted quality people to come back to Amiga.

Each example shines!

Hi there,

Welcome to Amigaworld.net!

I remember your demo from the 90's. Have to say that I enjoyed it a lot back then and it still looks nice. :) Good effects!

Are you thinking of doing demo stuff again? There are still active groups out there and productions are being released regularly. Would love to see some more AmigaOS 4.x demos being released.

Do you know what happened to Cydonia (one of my all-time favourite groups) by the way? I loved reading their diskmag (Defy) and the slideshow called Dreams was awesome.

welcome aboard

I know how you fee about not having an AmigaOS4.1 machine but I'm sure ACube can fix your little 440 and I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the X1000 running AmigaOS either

@PG

I am not doing demo stuff these days, but I still love watching the latest demos! Things have certainly moved on from 1998 when I last did demos thats for sure. I miss writing tracker music though and perhaps I will get back into it one day.

I know the demoscene itself is in decline in recent years, which is a shame. There are quality demos still around but the number of demos is rapidly decreasing. I guess the new generation of teenage coders are too busy making mostly useless iphone and android apps to do demos anymore....hmmm.. Maybe they could do a demo group history app or write demos for iphone instead!

Unfortunately I never got to meet Cydonia's members. They went quiet just as The Experience started up - we regularly attended Coven demo party each year in Adelaide when it was running at Adelaide University but alas we were the only Amiga presence, everyone else was PC.

One good part of that was I had a pile of great Amiga demos no one there had ever seen and there was quite a crowd watching me play them at the party!

@All

Thank you all for your kind welcome! I look forward to being a regular contributor in 2012 and will see you round the forums!

Catcha,
Epsilon

i hear ya, i also gave up on the scene around the time of Mental and Humus 4.

people on here try to get me into the scene again, yes i might oneday but for that to happen the scene has to change, its not about it decreasing etc, its the quality and style that is not inspirational to me anymore.

that said, there has been a few nice demos the last couple of years.
