Hi All,

I'm happy to make available the first BETA version of Odyssey 1.25. This is a result of a year of work, much of it spent on porting Odyssey to work directly on WebKit and updating engine to latest version.

Requirement to use this version of Odyssey it to ran Icaros 2.03 or compatible system.

Before using Odyssey 1.25 you need to update some of your system components. The archive containing them is available here:

http://download.aros3d.org/software/AROS-components-20150917.zip

Odyssey 1.25 can be downloaded from here:

http://download.aros3d.org/software/owb-aros-1.25-20160326.zip

Do not copy the Odyssey 1.25 on top of your Odyssey 1.23 installation. Treat it as separate application!

Changes:

31.08.2015: Odyssey Web Browser 1.25 BETA 1
- Updated to WebKit r183664 (May 2015). (AROS)
- Ported Odyssey directly on top of WebKit repository. (Common)
- Enable HTML5 video feature. (AROS)

- WebKit codes revision is now presented in AboutBox. (Common)
- Disabled WebWorkers support. (Common)
- Browser spoofing agents are updated for Firefox and Chrome. (Common)
- Added option to disable/enable MP4 support (enabled by default). (Common)
- Fixed crash when closing bookmarks panel (needs updated MUI components). (AROS)
- Double-clicking on bookmarks opens it in current tab. (AROS)
- Fixed list-related code that was trashing memory. (AROS)
- Lists (download, mime settings, history) now have a scroll bar (needs updated MUI components). (AROS)
- Fixed "division by zero" error in Quick Links handling (Common)

Known issues:
- If Google remembers your user, but not password, it is not possible to log in - you need to clear cookies

17.09.2015: Update to AROS-components
- opening or closing a tab does not cause flicker anymore
- switching between tabs does not cause flicker anymore
- tabs area enlarged so that button or icon are not damaged by rounded edges
- opening a new tab via middle button (link click) makes this tab inactive by default

26.09.2015: Instruction on how to configure sound so that Odyssye does not block other applications:

Copy AROS:Storage/AHI/device.audion to AROS:Devs/AHI
Copy AROS:Storage/AudioModes/DEVICE to AROS:Devs/AudioModes
Restart AROS
Go to AROS:Prefs/AHI
For "Music Unit" select a new entry called "Unit 0: 16 bit stereo++"
For "Unit 0" keep your correct audio driver selected as it was before
Save

Odyssey (and other applications that use AHI low level access) will no longer block audio.

@amigang

Fab was also working on compiling this version, but he had some Java Script engine endianess problems that were blocking PPC version.

Nice :)

I really hope for an update for OS4 as well. Our Odyssey is 2 years old now and more and more pages start to fail due to the aging webkit engine. And a stability fix for the media player would be nice so it can actually be used without having to reboot the machine afterwards....

@samo79

The repo has been up for more than a year, it's just that it wasn't advertised anywhere. It's not like anyone was looking for it though :)

@all
If fab and deadwood will allow, i will be happy to add os4 changes to the repo. But probably better to wait when mos version will be out, as it will mean working ppc-jit.

@deadwood
check you mail box plz.

Right on. It's probably worth looking into the leopard webkit sources, since they are endian-savvy already.

@deadwood

Thank you very much for all your hard work.
While Odyssey itself will get the main attention the mui/zune updates are also important for AROS.

Have downloaded, but haven't tried as yet. Will do so shortly.

@kas1e

JS-JIT would be AWESOME!
Then the Office online and live mail etc would really start to become useful

But do we have a compiler that can compile the new webkit with all those C++11 features?

The JS JIT for PPC/MorphOS was a project initially initiated by a bounty (in late 2013), accepted by Bigfoot. Progress was made but no progress reported in 1.5 years.

You can confirm that Fab has taken over this effort as part of the general Odyssey development?

Well, AFAIK Odyssey 1.24 (released 15-Apr-2014) was compiled with GCC 4.7.3 for this reason.

@deadwood

BTW, what's with that rushing out a BETA version, with known (and quite notable) unfixed issues?

To make some headlines of you being "first"?

you praise MorphOS "NG" without anything available yet

so deadwood has the right to be the "first"

@TRIPOS

Where would 4.7.3 have come from since it's not on adtools?

Edit: I thought you were referring to the OS4 port (1.23) and not the latest MOS port (1.24). I'll see if I can find any clues in the OS4 binary.
Edit2: Looks like the OS4 port of 1.23 used gcc 4.4.3
