| I have some news
I have redesigned http://www.aros-platform.de, it is now not only visuell improved but also full supporting mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
The page also includes download links for Aros Vision RTG 3.1 (for UAE). Most important changes are different desktops (Magellan, Scalos, Wanderer) and implementations of MUi (Zune, MUI 3.8 and MUI 4). The system files are updated and f.e. Amiblitz.
New is Aros Vision PAL that is optimized for slower hardware and is much smaller. Because I cannot test it myself I would be grateful to get feedback.

Thanks Olaf - great work! Haven't tried the new version (yet!) but the website is much better than before. One suggestion based on is a problem I see on a number of Amiga websites. On the homepage you have the text:
Quote:
On “Download” you find the link to download and install Aros Vision |
You should just replace that with a big button labeled "Download" that takes you to the same page. Why tell someone there's a link and make them go and look for it? "Don't make me think" as the name of the famous web design book goes.
Looking forward to trying the distro!Last edited by clebin on 10-Apr-2016 at 06:20 PM.

Quick try in WinUAE:
Needs little bit more than 5 MB RAM (which is good - I have 8 MB).
Needs 70+ MB on HDD (which is bad - I don´t have that much space left on my HDD ; Well, I can erase Extras).
Starts in 320x256 32 colours. I assume you want lowest common screen for all Amiga computers, but lowres is not wise choice for WB. I recommend 640x256 (PAL Highres) 4 colours, if you care for OCS/ECS systems.
I was not able to open drawers without icon in Magellan, but it works in your other (limited) WB enviroment).
Edit: Is there any Ed replacement for simple script editing? Last edited by pavlor on 10-Apr-2016 at 06:39 PM.

Thanks!
Opening drawers in Magellan is too slow in comparison to my OS3.1 (or even fine tuned 3.0 with a lot of NewIcons) - same configuration in WinUAE - no JIT. To be even more precise, my 3.0 setup (32 colours WB) opens Prefs drawer of AROS muuuch faster than AROS itself (4 colours)! Last edited by pavlor on 11-Apr-2016 at 02:38 PM.

and with RTG?
Aros was never programmed for real 68k amigas but for fast graphic-card equipped PCs so I doubt that f.e. Blitter is used very much or at all
So behavior using RTG is more interesting to me and if it is usable at all on real hardware
3.X will always be faster than Aros on slow 68k amigas Last edited by OlafS25 on 11-Apr-2016 at 03:04 PM.

there is a new version of PAL uploaded, this time based on Wanderer
it is fast enough when using in winuae without JIT and approx... speed + 68020 (nearest what I can simulate on WinUAE). When testing I have realized that RTG with low number of colours (f.e. 8bit mode) is getting in slow motion whereas 32bit (Truecolor) is much faster. I assume that aros operates internal in truecolor and has to calculate down the numbers, a little opposite to 3.X

on RTG it is obvious that Aros dislikes low number of colours and slows down. That is compensated to UAE with JIT by pure processing power but obvious when being in a slow configuration. If possible test it with maximum number of colors please |
