There's still work to be done ... however I figured it was time for people to see the progress. :)

When will Final Writer be availabe for Amiga OS 3 or OS 4.1 ? If the OS3 version runs ok on OS 4.1 I'd even be happy that that for the time being. _________________ - BCP AmigaOne X1000 & Amiga 4000

MorphOS version will be nice too... _________________ "When the Amiga came out, everyone [at Apple] was scared as hell." (J.L. Gasse, former CEO of Apple France and chief of devs of Mac II-fx, interviewed by Amazing Computing, Nov 1996). |

If it runs under Zune, then a MorphOS port will be easier than the Amiga ports. Unless MUI will be used. _________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |

AH...see, you should have started with the MorphOS port, and then ported to the other platforms! (hopefully that playful statement won't result in massive flaming).
Another possibility (that wouldn't have worked for AROS) would have been to design a 68K, OS friendly version that would run on OS3.1, 4.1, and MorphOS.
I'm not sure why that second option isn't explored more, as less demanding apps like word processors would then be highly portable.

actually it is now very portable, has become endian agnostic and is 64 Bit/ SMP friendly.

| if it is not using MUI that mean it uses GadTools I guess so it is more portable than any other GUI and probably also faster so why trying to make it slower?

Cool, the MorphOS port should recompile on the eventual X64 fork with no problem. I think you've have my attention, sir!
This is great timing, I'm buying an X5000 and it will be nice to have an identical word processor to use on both NG OS' I'll be using. Same web browser, same word processor, similar versions of Blender... Neat! _________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |

I'm gone take it as a joke ...
AOS4, AOS3 and MorphOS can use the old Amiga 68k programs that are available.
AROS x86 did not have any useful word processor, so it will have most benefit from a native port.

I have heard FinalWriter will be ported to all AmigaOID Systems, but I don't know if it will sell without any improvement to the original program. Last edited by OneTimer1 on 22-Dec-2016 at 08:56 PM.

Yes that was a joke. I wouldn't want to force OS4 users to use MUI, the port of that is not quite as nice as Zune or MUI 5 under MorphOS. And OS4 and MorphOS can run SOME 68K applications, but they can't access hardware directly, they have to be OS friendly and work through the drivers. _________________ Amiga! I tried new version (with default QEMU settings) - I really like default theme, but AROS opens in insanely huge resolution (2560x1600) and Im not able to lower screenmode (AROS complains about open non-Wanderer windows). I changed VGA to cirrus to solve this problem, but there may be better solution, I hope.
Edit: Sorry, I used prior release, downloading this one right now... Edit2: XMAS preview - same issue with vmware GFX.
@terminills
Quick test of FinalWriter: I was not able to resize FW window, parts of the bottom and right window border disappeared.
Do you plan some basic document compatibility with mainstream world (I mean saving into format readable by MS Word with footnotes and non-English language, eg. Czech)? Hi Pavlor,
Take some free time and please read the Icaros Manual, since it should explain everything. Icaros Desktop, by defaults, scans the possible native drivers and falls back to VESA mode when none is available. This is the case for VMware, since AROS native VMware driver exists, but it's not really usable IMHO (so I moved it to Storage). VESA driver, by default, tries to open the widest possible resolution passed by the BIOS. If you wish to limit this resolution, you have many options, the easiest ones being editing the GRUB menu/command line, OR your virtual machine settings.
I, personally, always go for the second way.
Just select your VM when is powered off, look at its settings, choose Display and, in the display settings, activate "Specify monitor settings" and enter by hand your screen's native resolution in the field "Maximum resolution of any one monitor:". I entered, for instance, "1920 x 1080". You can ignore the 3D Acceleration option since it does not work on AROS but you may activate "Enter full screen mode after powering on" in vmware power options. After this little effort, your AROS screen will open at the right resolution. |
