OpenArena is a Free Open content package for the id tech3 GPL source code package. But why is it a game? Well you see one of the great side effects of making content for a bunch of source code out there is that it becomes a playable game itself. This opens more opportunity for FUN to the end user because they have another option to play a game that you couldn't play without the data because now there is data made for it. And since this data created is also FREE, it's very redistributable. Meaning more people can play it with little effort on obtaining it. This is A Good Thing.

The gameplay is identical to the game it's based on so fans of that other game should feel at home here. We do not intend to change the physics of the game. If you feel there is a change of physics of input smoothness, you can blame the ioquake3 team, not us; we just make MD3s and TGAs, compile the code and put it out there.

Seems quite stable, if putting it through lowmem hell is any indication; 256 MB isn't enough for 320x240 resolution (which does help compared to 640).

@samo79

Very nice, thanks for this port.
I will test it this weekend.

How to connect to (public) 0.8.1 servers? It seems to use older network code?

Compiling ioquake3 results in a weird error "@gcc: not found", which proves that even when everything is ready to go, I can still fail to produce anything.

Unless it works with Warp3D on Sam440, I wouldn't bother, because software rendering is likely too slow (unless you use a low resolution like 640x480).

By the way, was there a big difference in the current minigl beta, and minigl.library 1.5? The only way I get a half-decent framerate with OA/ioquake3 is with a low amount of players and facing a direction where there isn't a great deal of map. A1XE G3 as in signature...

@Thematic

Ok if it is running slow on your machine, NO WONDER it is running slow on my sam440ep 667 mhz machine.

Atleast Now I know many amiga users are having similar experiences, can anyone fix this shet so its useable as a spin off reel, like the real deal type of show off case, whereby i get to the Base of it, and tap that mouse button, to find my friends amused at how nicely it runs??

Coz right now, If I were to show them quake 3, it'd only be laughter.

Thankfully I have other nice games that run at nice speeds, with nice gameplay also.
