Hi

Before posting this I searched for information about Payback on the Amiga World forums and I found a mini guide with the steps to run payback under Amiga OS4.1 without updates I think.
On one step it says that you must assign your controller to the gamepad lowlevel library 1.
My problem is that when I tried to do this the pointer becomes busy and nothing more I can do,even after pressing the keys for a soft reboot it freezes my computer.

I buyed Payback some months ago,probably 3 or 4 months ago and it is a shame to have this game and can't run it even having a PPC machine as it is my Amiga One.

Has any of you runned Payback under OS4.1 update 2?

How can I play if possible this game on my Amiga One?

I have buyed too Software Tycoon and this runs without problems.

AmigaInput Prefs is a bit buggy. It sounds like the prefs file for it has become corrupted, so you need to delete it, reboot, and then set-up AmigaInput again. You can delete the prefs files using this Shell command:

Delete EnvArc:Sys/AmigaInput/#? All

Please copy & paste this perfectly, because any errors may delete half of your OS4 installation. If you aren't sure what you are doing, then don't do it, and ask for help instead!

@newlight

First you need to install WarpEmu

@NutsAboutAmiga
WarpEmu is NOT needed, if you run the 68k version... which you should, because you won't get any sound with the WarpUp version. Also make sure to use the latest version of Payback.

Brought a Wingman gamepad to A1 just for Paypack,... A little bugfix still the same, can't enter cars or more. Just the stupid button "pressed" in the keyboard.

Help meee Apex Designs!?!

Would be cool to have the game running with good specs!

So the symptom/fault is that the firebutton was pressed all the time.

Now trying again and the game even don't boot. Whent colourful- Well, this is OS 4,1 so used to crashes anyways...

Did you plug a joypad/joystick in AFTER booting OS4, but BEFORE starting Payback? And is the joystick configured with LowLevel emulation? Because I found keyboard controls didn't work if a joystick wasn't plugged in!

AND make sure the CD is ejected BEFORE you start Payback, otherwise it tries to play the video, and this crashes. Best not to use the CD at all, while testing, since you may forget to eject it.

Getting Payback to run is a little difficult. I would only run the latest 68k version, with Hardware rendering disabled.

Just to confirm, yes, Payback runs fine here on OS4.1 Update 2.

Well, I'm no-longer able to get joystick controls to work (but have NOT looked into this properly yet), but I still need a joystick plugged in (and configured) for the keyboard controls to work!

OK, discovered why the Joystick had stopped working with Payback after OS4.1 Update 2 - I had apparently forgotten how to Calibrate the joystick using AmigaInput! Now that's done, it works just as nicely as before.

So my previous thread about how to get Payback to work on OS4 still applies 100%

Any luck? Or do I need to dig-out my old how-to-run-Payback-on-OS4 guide?

@ChrisH

I have my Amiga One broken on the last 2 weeks so I can't try to run Payback.

The last time I tried I remember to see the intro screen and then it freezes my Amiga One.

What steps may I follow to run this game on OS4.1 update 2?

Well, thats your problem then: The intro doesn't work, so you have to prevent it from playing. Keeping the CD ejected (until the game starts) should do this.

Ah, you could be right. (I haven't installed Payback in a long time!) But you still have to keep the CD ejected, or it will play it.

@ChrisH

Well I tried to delete the AmigaInput files in a shell with the the commands you gave me and it says:

DELETE: "EnvArc is a dispositive and cannot be deleted"

What can I do now?

@newlight

What was your command? Did you try to delete ENVARC? I've never tried that so I don't know what the replay would be.

You could just "go" to the directory from Shell and when in the correct location you use "delete **" without the "" marks.

like open shell

type "ENVARC:"

type sys

type cd amigainput (cd is necessary or else it will launch the amigainput program)

type dir and you should see something like:

AmigaInput.prefs LowLevel.prefs

you can delete those files by typing "delete *.prefs" or "delete #?.prefs" depending on your settings.

I don't know how used you are to using shell and DOS?

@hotrod

I was only trying the command that ChrisH posted here.

I will try your commands later.

Yesterday too I deleted the Payback installation and when I tried to install in spanish it showed a Grim Reaper and freezed the install window so I have to try to install again maybe in another language
