Hello, just wanted to tell that you can find Omega now on OS4Depot.

http://www.os4depot.net/showfile/?file=game/roleplaying/omegappc804.lha

Here is some info: http://www.alcyone.com/max/projects/omega/

Here is a screen shot: http://www.student.oulu.fi/~jniemima/amiga/Omega.png

Have fun!

@Mr_Capehill

Looks good - quite similar to the early Ultima games, IIRC. Shame that the link to the Omega homepage (on the info link you posted) doesn't work

It'd be great if ADOM could be ported - that's great fun!
Jochen Terstiege (sp?) has already ported it to almost every combination of 68k processor, and the 603/604 family... so perhaps it wouldn't be such a big job...

@Chunder

The info link works here. What specifically about it doesn't work for you?

@olegil

Sorry - didn't phrase it quite right...

On the info page, linked to above, there is another link to The Omega Homepage (under "Web Resources>Omega").

This link does not work.

@Chunder

I have contacted webmaster( at ) adom.de, but no reply.

I will try again later. If you know Jochen's e-mail, perhaps you can pm it to me?

@Mr_Capehill

Unfortunately I haven't got it any more; I beta'd ADOM on my BlizzPPC for him - and all the e-mail correspondance is tucked away in an MD2 mail archive on one of the hard-disks in one of my boxes of computer bits

His address is (IIRC) detailed on the readme docs within the ADOM archives, though.

Okay, don't worry about it too much. I guess I can find it by myself when time is right,

@Mr_Capehill

I contacted the guy who did the 68k ADOM weeks ago and he wont be doing a PPC port but, only because he dosent have an A1. They wont release sources because the secrets could leak out and i kind of agree, who want's to spoil the fun? :) Anyway, i dont even know if they use gcc so just building for a target machine might not be possible (yet). ADOM still runs fine for me though, even if it's 68k.

Oops, forgot his email addy. :)

Good. I'll try it.

I hope more rogue-like games will be ported in the near future. Larn, Nethack and Angband (and variants) would be nice.

Kind regards,

Dennis

Ahem, the SDK is included with every copy of OS4 to date so what are you waiting for?

I have already tried to port the original Rogue and Angband, but I couldn't get it to compile. Rogue and Angband are made for another compiler and needed stuff I don't have. I don't know how to get something to display on an Amiga screen or in a window on Workbench and I don't know how to change the source so the compiler will accept it, so it may take a while before I can port something useful myself.

Kind regards,

Dennis

@Chunder

I'm ready to sign NDA to port ADOM if needed.

By the way, Angband 3.0.5 runs as PPC-native now. Was a painful process of compiling on my poor BPPC, but surely worth it ;)

I think I just need to add P96 support and if it doesn't contain any bugs "it's done"...

The Amiga-specific SAS/C code gives tons of warnings, but they seem not to be fatal and I'm not sure if I should bother to clean it up.

@A3000T

It's not that hard. Angband comes with main-ami.c which needs some fixation. Then you need a makefile (I modified cygwin's and removed Windows stuff) and small change to main.c to get it compile. I can provide this stuff soon so you can try your wings on other Angband variants.

Makefile places a few defines that make sure that correct (AmigaOS specific) code paths get compiled.

I will surely try Nethack after Zangband and ToME if nobody gets there first ;)

That would be great. If I can see how it is done, I'll be able to port some Angband variants and other stuff myself.

Kind regards,

Dennis

Variants are not really identical, I have noticed, but still mostly pretty portable. I have played today Angband, ZAngband and ToME :)

Only problem is my slow machine which has been compiling files all the day...

IMO, ZAngband is the best Angband variant.

I thought it was impossible later on... but then I found you can edit the monsters and items lists!

I put it so that several of the unique monsters such as the Unicorn of Order, Oberon and the Serpent of Chaos are much slower, making them a whole lot easier to beat!

I brought in a new unique character: me as myself, a very strong, fast, friendly monster who fires rockets!

I put it so that monsters such as the Great Wyrm of Power are friendly, so they help you!

I even brought in new items- the ring of Great Protection which gives you about 100 AC points, makes you immune or resistant to everything, and increases your speed, stealth and the rest!

Another item: the ring of the Fighter, which greatly increases your +to hit and +to dam, making you much better at fighting and shooting!

Yet another item: the weapon of Legends, which gives you several extra attacks per round, drains life from monsters, is deadly against animals, orcs, trolls, giants, undead and demons!

New armour: Supranium, which is light, but gives you another 100 AC points!

...........................................................
I guess some of you guys have no idea what I'm on about... Go play ZAngband and you'll know!

@All

If ADOM (the best IMO) et al aren't directly ported to OS4, they may run under UAE.

I didn't find Zangband more difficult at the end... About the same.
