@Thread

I tested my memory and got some errors on solid bits and bit flow. This was a 256 Mb Twin Mos ram.

I then changed the ram with the one i use in my synthesizer that is a cruisal 512 Mb and it was Ok on all tests.

The RD still hangs thow, and the sound is the problem.

I also have a swiftech MCX159 cooling my XPC 7455 RX933PC with the right vcore off 1,79. So heat is no problem. I also have two 12 cm cabinet fans blowing towards the cpu and MB.

I will run AmigaAmp over night to confirm that audio is okey when ethernet is at idle :)

@Bean

Replying to myself - tusk tusk..

Erm, anyway it looks like I just wiped out everything I was saying. It crashed! After transfering (ftp'ing) over two Gigs of data, streaming audio, copying to USB stick, and browsing with IBrowse I got a total freeze after about 1.5 hours (with audio going in a short loop and frozen pointer).

.... Never noticed this before, but I was pushing the system quite hard (though I wasn't doing anything I don't normally do - I was just doing more of it at once).

Thing is, it could have been anything that caused the crash and any combination of software, OS components, or hardware issues (I have an unfixed A1XE). It will be a hard one to track down.

Off to try and reproduce the problem.

Cheers,
Bean.

This would be highly unlikely. Just look at µA1-C, it has the Articia S chip UNDER
the CPU card. No heatsink or anything. And why don't any µA1-C users have
these crashes if it was Articia S overheating?

No it is clearly some bug somewhere in either hardware or software which
simply needs a workaround or just a fix.

@thread

Have we established with which CPU this happens?
Is it only 7451 or with 7455 also?
EDIT: Saw fraggel's post just now. He has problems with 7455.

Does all users have the same vcore (7451 800MHz - 1.59V)?
You guys really need to try and find out exactly which CPU model you have
so the the correct vcore can be set. It is not so fun searching for bugs in
software when a simple thing like a couple of dip switches could fix it.

Do all users with these crashes have the same sound card?

Can someone with this problem test if it crashes also with a PCI network
card instead of the onboard one?

@Samwel

I'll try to get that heatsink on my CPU next week, and report back with the V-Core settings, CPU version, and memory details.

@Fraggel

Freescale PDFs actually states:
XPC7455RX933PC @1.85V ±50mV

Freescale pdf on XPC74x5RXnnnPx

Your 1.79V is actually on the very low end of the specs.
But are you running at 933 or 800MHz?

@Samwel

Maybe by posting the machine specs (all in one go) and comments we can see a common problem.

Ok, my specs which I have (now) noticed problems with:

A1XE Unfixed (OS4 UPD 3)
7450 - VCore 1.69 800Mhz (Damn - I was wrong when I said 1.59 - just rechecked)
On Board ETH
SIL Card (UDMA - HD / CDROM)
CT4740 Creative Labs Sound Blaster
AGP Radeon 7000 - APG 2x Sideband on
a1ide.device disabled and in UBoot.

Comments: Only appears to happen under heavy loads (got it to happen twice now). Normal Audio streaming does not appear to cause any problems, just when you start ftp'ing at the same time - and only then after some time. I probably do have some heat issues if you see my previous posts - will check the exact CPU number soon.

@Bean

A1 XE Unfixed (OS4 UPD 3)
7455 (PC) - VCore 1.85 (at the moment, had 1.79 before this).
On Board ETH
SII Card (UDMA on two harddrives, CD-burner and DVD-ROM)
SB Live!
ATI Radeon 7000 - AGP 2x Sideband on (tried with it off)
a1ide.device disabled from uboot and kicklayout
512 Mb Kingmax SuperRAM (I think it's called). No errors according to memtester.
Zalman solution for cooling, will change to Swiftech this week.

@Bean

I'll keep to the same format (Details taken from "C:pciscan":

A1-XE G4 Unfixed (OS4 UPD 3)
7451 - VCore 1.59 800Mhz
3Com Corporation - 3C905C-TX Fast EtherLink for PC Management NIC
Silicon Image, Inc. - SiI 0680 UltraATA/133 EIDE Controller
Creative Labs - (EMU10000) Sound Blaster Live! (Also Live! 5.1)
ATI Technologies - RV200 Radeon 7500
512mb RAM, I forget where it was bought from, AmigaKit maybe? Tested & ok though.
Onboard a1ide.device not disabled but it is in UBoot

@FuZion

This is a longshot and probably stupid, but those who have problems do they have the soundchip on the MB?

I have no idea to why this would cause problems but.......

@hotrod

I've never even attempted to use the onboard sound. Does it work on the A1? If so, it would be worth testing, see if that does the same thing maybe?

Just for information for those owners of 7451, here are vcore values:

nnn=733, 800 or 933 (same vcore for all three)

XPC7451RXnnnPG @1.8V ±50mV

Freescale pdf on XPC7451RXnnnPG

XPC7451RX800SG @1.75V ±50mV

Freescale pdf on XPC7451RX800SG

For the oldest 7451, called MPC7451EC by Freescale in their pdf's a recommended
vcore should be 1.6V ±50mV

Freescale pdf on MPC7451EC

So unless you guys have the old MPC7451EC I believe all of you have wrong vcore.
But please, could someone with full knowledge about this comment.

I don't think so - I'm not even sure a driver exists for the XE's sound chip! Plus its not wired properly, so even if there was one it wouldn't work IIRC.

@Samwel

Thanks for grabbing that info for us. As Samwel says, if someone out there has any deeper knowledge, as in; Should we just set the values to this? Should we work up to it testing as we go? I for one would be grateful.

@Samwel

Just took the fan off the CPU. It's actually a 7450, with this number on it:

A99236D001

Any idea, what VCore that should be?!!?!

Cheers,
Bean.

@Bean

Not fully sure as I can't find the correct PDF.
But the 7451 PDF states that the oldest 7451 model is vcore compatible
with 7450 so I suppose this means 1.6V ±50mV should be correct.
I'm not fully sure about this though.

@Samwel

Ok guys, you gonna like this!

My 7450 was set at 1.69 volts, originally it was set at 1.59 but I changed it a long time ago (about a year ago probably!).

Anyway, on the details here I moved it down back to the original 1.59, and could not get it to boot properly.

The first time it crashed when Running WET (Internet Weather app). The second time it crashed on AddNetInterface in the startup sequence.

Looks like the VCORE and Internal ETH stability are related!

I upped it to 1.64 and it booted fine, and I'll see how I go with this.

Remember I have a 7450, so the VCORE will be different, but it does look like the two are related.

Cheers,
Bean.

P.S. Stress testing now...

@Bean

I think that as long as you don't stress the CPU you can run fine
with lower vcore value. But networking is just the kind of stress
that would make the CPU need it's full power.
That's what makes your Amigas crash IMHO.

@thread
Each of you guys need to find out the exact model designation.
This can be found under the fan and heatsink, ontop of the
processor.
But if your not sure what you're doing, please let someone with
the knowledge check it and fasten the heatsink and fan back on.

..and quite possibly the 1.69 I had it set to was too high and causing too much heat (after all I did say I thought I had heat problems). Perhaps the 1.64 is just right (with the 1.59 being too low).

So far so good. I'll let you know how it holds up tomorrow.

Cheers,
Bean.
