Indeed. Most people were pretty certain that it was a hoax simply because it came so suddenly out of the blue, while the other Amizilla coders haven't got anywhere near the stage this "port" purported to be in. Why offer to help what's either a finished product or a fake?

Not sure how long the picture was on the net (how long it took to be posted here) but they didn't keep the hoax running for long..

If it was meant to measure the interest in helping porting Firefox, it should have been up longer.

Another thing, there are allready people working at Amizilla, other programmers are busy porting/programming other stuff..

So far we have IBrowse, Aweb, Paihia, Amizilla.. Those are still being developed aFAIK. How about Voyager (MOS only ?) So. How many programmers are willing to go to an never heard of before team instead of offering their support to an existing effort..

It looks likely that XML, CSS and Javascript will be done by then, but it will probably still have incomplete DOM, networking and image support. If it can render the Acid2 Test then that would be enough for me. No browser I have ever tried can render it the same as the reference image. That include's IE6/Firefox/Opera8/KHTML/AWebAPL/IBrowse2.3/VoyagerMOS. I dunno about Safari though, but presume being KHTML based it won't.

Actually, it does. Safari is the first one to pass the test. Konqueror doesn't, though, and that caused a bit of an uproar with the KDE maintainrs - they claim that Apple is doing the best to make merging Safari changes back into kHTML as difficult as possible.

And some others (ie; ME!) posted (Twice) saying they had conducted scientific tests which proved the image was a composite... But oh no.. What do I know. The clash was caused by clueless people who keeped to moan about stuff that's in WebCore but it's not merged into KHTML-branch. This leaded to the point where KTML guys had to rewrite features from scratchs because Apple's diffs blob was not mergable due bad code standards, ObjC & use of own graphic engine. Yes, I've seen some of the mud slinging going on between them. My take: If Apple are complying 100% with the GPL (Which they are), then the KDE folk should have studied the GPL a bit more thoroughly before choosing it as their preferred licence, as it obviously isn't what they required. Sh!t happens!

No. Again: KDE developers don't think that Apple should do more than they're doing now. They could, but they don't. OK, no problem for KDE Developers. The only problem is users who thinks that Apple code is merged into the KHTML ,,as is''. That's unfair for guys actually developing new stuff. Apple is not a holy grail of software.
