@afxgroup

fiew things like Samwel

Mplayer works fine on my µA1 750FX, not using SDL video or Audio (I had tu use this with the previous preview). But the DVD playback is stil not on top (maybe my Drive being to old).

I've sound problems on one DVD Zone 2 Gladiator.
If I play chapter 1 (Universal anim) the sound is ok, but if I try to load and other, the sound became a big Biiiiiiiiiip.

When I play RahXephon Zone1 DVD, there is no sound problem.

Even with framedrop activated, playback is not smooth.
Aspect ratio managment would be nice.

I use the GUI, not CLI

Keep going, it's great job

@All
ive noticed something weird with my system A1XEG4@1000mhz sii0680ide
now if i use full udma(mode 66 )with my pioneer 107d i get horrible speeds
but if i select pio4 (mode 12) my playback speed is good with dvd and divx

i also put it to the test burning and get same results pio4 is faster than udma 1,2,3,4and 5
is this a problem with sil drivers or something else ?

ok ive a sony dvd rom and its playing full speed dvd with udma5 so its the pioneer thats creating probs here

Quote:

Also why doesn't MPlayer choose widescreen aspect for DVD?
Kingpin is a widescreen 16:9 anamorphic movie.

It is the next thing to do. Have you tried with sdl? It should rescale correctly the movie but it slow. This because it use a software scaling. The CGX and P96 should use an optimized Altivec (on G4 of course) version of software scaling (and even color conversion). But there are many problem and i have disabled it. So no aspect correction is enabled on CGX drivers. When we will have overlay support the scaling and YUV conversion will be enabled and they will be hardware based, not software based. In this way we SHOULD see DVD without problems. I think that AHI is quite old like technology and should be renew. but this is only an opinion..

@all
For the WMV files. Please send it to me and however don't try to play WMV10 (and many 9) files. They are not supported very well by mplayer. On windows (and linux x86) platform they are played using win native DLL (windows mediaplayer dll)

The problems with the wrong colors are now gone, mplayer works flawlessly on my system. Thanks!

This version seems to work better than previous versions, but sometimes I still get HWlockups. Now I use mplayer without the gui.

I've got a Micro, and with framedrop ticked DVDs work, well almost. Well to be honest it's more like a 3 second slide-show.

And in fact works far worse that a £30 DVD player from Tesco would. But then the same can be said for my PC with an expensive Graphics cards in it, so what the hey.

@ALL

Alright I can use mplayer to play an avi, mpeg files etc. Can mplayer be used to play a commercial DVD (movie) straight out of the box? I've played around with the gui and shell commands but no luck so far trying to play a DVD.

I'm trying on my µA1-C with pre-release 3 and updated firmware installed.

Thanks,

TrevorDick

Most commercial DVDs are encoded. You can't play those with Mplayer on OS4 right now. On Linux, there is a decss library that lets you play them anyway. I hope something like this becomes available for OS4 as well.

I found a few DVDs that are not encoded (~95% of my collection is encoded). Mplayer works with them, but it is far too slow, very choppy and the interlace artifacts are awful.

Playing files from harddisk works fine, though.

Kind regards,

Dennis

@afxgroup

On the whole 2 DVDs I've tried Doctor Who The Robots of Death, and George Clinton's Mothership Connection ("WE LOVE TO FUNK, YOU FUNKENSTEIN, YOUR FUNK IS THE BEST"), and they both "played"..

Well sorta anyhow.

Edited to add, but it plays all my little film clips fine, and is a great little product, eps. concidering how much I paid for it!

Thanks to the developers! As aways.

@Tonton_Pascal

Hi,

Quote:"Even with framedrop activated, playback is not smooth."

Framedrop is not about making smooth playback.
The purpose is to "drop" video frames in order to keep audio and video in synchronization
with one another. If the video and audio seem to be relatively well matched, then framedrop
is doing its job for you.
You should only need framedrop activated with DVD and perhaps "high stress" video codecs.
You should not need to activate framedrop for simple mpg1, uncompressed avi, and other
"less stressful" codecs. I am not familiar with the difference in FX capability vs GX, on
the Micro A1-C, so I cannot be more specific at present. My comments refer to Micro A1-C GX.

Best Wishes,

@Stephen_Robinson

Micro A1-C GX?
(1)Use only CGX_VMEM modes for video output.
(2)Use sdl only for audio output.
(3)Use either window or full screen, your choice.

(4)Read my previous post about "stressful codecs" and use of "framedrop" in the
extras menu.

Edit(Added):All DVD units are -not- alike in their performance. This remains a
variable, IMO, until we compile a de facto list of compatible DVD players.
Therefore, if you use the settings I suggest, and still have an issue, it could
be the DVD player causing the problem.

Best Wishes,

@afxgroup

When I try to play a MP3 using AmigaAmp whilst playing a video with Mplayer, I get an error from AmigaAmp that I don't have the correct AHI verion or my AHI setting might be incorrect. Same goes for other audio programs together with Mplayer.

Playing different sounds using AmigaAmp, Amplifier, Multiview and Samplemanager all together give no problem.

Also Hollywood (see other thread ) behaves the same as Mplayer.

Maybe you can shed some light on this for me, I know there are other people with the same problems.

Thanks,

Martin

Also thinking about It on my Miggy 1 (micro Gx with 512 meg of ram) I've got the DVD on the same IDE channel as my HDD, that won't help.

I'm getting one of these

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=36945&doy=27m7

And so I can use the second channel.
You can get them cheaper from Amazon, until you add the £5 p+p!

@Metalheart

Hi again,

Are you using the latest AmigaAmp 2.15?
If so, did you make any adjustments based on the author's recommendations?

Best Wishes,

@Metalheart

try to use AHI_DEV (or SDL) instead AHI because AHI audio output lock the device exclusively
