I afraid that OS4 would be ready, they might want to release together with new hardware, AND that might take some time

This was actually quite funny.

Just to refresh your memory (8th Dec. is not too long ago, is it?):

Final OS 4 or not will not change anything - if there is no hardware on sale, any finalized softwre will be unrunnable.

Now go and figure out what that could mean.

And please, get real, there won't be ever anything from Eyetech.

I would rather see os4upd4 then final store release.
Better wait until there is hardware actually for sale.
What if they release a final sales version and theres
no hardware to buy ? Pc folks and others would just laugh.
I buy it and put it where. In my bin/trash :p

So more updates until new hardware is avaible. This makes
also the final release more complete as the longer time
they have the better it gets and gets better review in the
end. This is only my opinion. An update with more Warp3d
drivers and JIT would not be bad.

@Helgis

John Lennon forever;

In my life
By John Lennon/McCartney

There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends
I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

~~~~~~
Imagine
By John Lennon.
Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...
Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...
Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.
I agree, that would be the best what they could do. A little Christmas-present for you - and especially for Helgis: --->
@hatschi
I agree.
On a completely personal level, if they released an update with Petunia integrated, I think it would improve my Os4 experience by quite a way.
@Robert
The important question is - just how far away is a new machine?
@Kicko
I love your comments here. I agree...
More Warp3D-drivers, the finish port of MesaGL/Fixed MiniGL - Full OpenGL,
the JIT emulator and that tool being standard that Automatic Checks/Updates
Files...
And yes, full Screen-Dragging feature
Yes, Pre4 OS4.0 and a new UBoot (version 1.1.3)..
Then we won't be able to complain about the wait for Final OS4.0
Everybody would feel happy Pre4 OS4.0 with these extra goodies,
perhaps able to use the language we want in Locale, Partition Wizard
having full support for SFS, full Screen-Dragging, OpenGL thru MesaGL,
Fixed MiniGL, more Warp3D-drivers (for Radeon 9200, too) and many more
bugfixes, like to the AmiDock thing, for instance
Couldn't be more perfect while waiting for the Final OS4.0 when more OS4-hardwares
are out there
Thanks, that would cheer me and others up
Yeah, Petunia or Warp3D would be great.
Wow, the number of smilies already substantially improved!
However, not everybody would feel happy: There are lots of people who are lost, alone and have to survive X-Mas without any new AOne-hardware.
@hatschi
Thanks for the comments of my smiley smiles
Well, i agree with what you say about the lack of A1-hardware...
That is really the situation at the moment...
Okay...I don't understand this "there's no new hardware" logic as a potential reason for not releasing OS4, considering HOW MANY PEOPLE have an OS4-ready machine in their hands and are waiting patiently -- and impatiently -- for the finished product?
Kinda like saying to a bunch of people who bought new houses with a promise of central air conditioning...just imagine this:
"Well, we haven't finished building the central air units yet, so here are some window units to use in the mean time."
(time passes...)
"Hey, these window units are only giving us so much refreshment. When are we getting that bloody central air?"
"When it's done."
(time passes...)
"It's done!"
"Great! Then let's have those central air units installed then!"
"Well, sorry, we can't do that. You see...even though you all bought your houses and prepaid for your central air, we can't install the central air systems until we build more new houses."
For the future of the platform, you're absolutely right.
OTOH, my A1 is pretty decent already so I don't see me buying a new machine to run OS4 on anytime soon.
One of the programmes I use most is HD-Rec. On MOS, which has JIT, it can do much more before running out of resources than on my A1. This is despite my A1 being 200mHz and 128MB better off.
That's why Petunia is of such interest to me; more effects, software instruments, etc.
Maybe you better understand with a simple, economically oriented question:
"Who are they going to sell it to?"
@hatschi
Uhh...people with PPC-based Amigas???? They ARE making OS4 for Cyberstorm/Blizzard users too, y'know...
Also...seeing as how hard it is to get your hands on an A1 these days, logic seems to follow that hey, maybe more official Amiga products will be near-impossible to get, so hey, why not buy now and avoid the chaos later? Mind you, I wouldn't do that myself, but I can certainly imagine some insane folk doing that.
But this does not sound like a good marketing either:
"And here is the final OS4, after 4 years of development, we created an OS way beyond everything on the market today. Please go ahead and buy it.
However, please note that it might probably take between 1/2 and 2 years until the appropriate hardware platform will be released, if ever."
@all
I think JIT and Draggable-screens are really cool. That's why they have to be reserved for the OS4 final as the knock-out punch!
In the meanwhile, some new Warp3D drivers and a fix for eth3com driver and such would be nice as an update.
I say all these, but I know that preparing an update and managing different versions are a lot of work by themselves. If OS4 final is really really close to ready (even if it's not going to be released due to lack of hardware), it will be difficult to justify the effort for preparing and maintaining an update.
Hyperion could release a "FINAL OS4 PRERELEASE" for all A1 users to beta
test before the final is released openly.
Alot of bugs have been found by others than the internal beta testers
This way no new hardware should be needed and it's a little thanks you to
all of us who have invested before it was done. Yes, I know all prereleases
are already..
IMHO of course!
Sigh...unfortunately, they announced that Update 3 is basically what you're asking about.
