Amigaworld became the biggest Amiga website?

(taking off my moderator's hat off for a minute, I am speaking to you as Mikey C, Amigaworld user, not a member of staff)

Let me refresh your memory, it was because we left other Amiga websites which were polluted with BBRV, Genesi, and it's followers.

Now, on Amigaworld we have BBRV, Genesi and it's followers.

Some people think this is a plus point, to have differing views, I am sticking my neck out that most Amigaworld members who joined Amigaworld.net back then did so for the same reasons as I did, We wanted a place where we could post stuff about our platform without someone else coming in and spoiling it all.

But, times have changed, it seems some people want more MOS users in here too. (take over of Amigaworld.net by stealth?)

It seems there is not even one person voicing a protest as to what is happening.

Oh well

EDIT: In short: Amigaworld: Pro Amiga or Not?

@Mikey_C

Well, I came here because of all the anti-amiga trolling there was at the other sites. I personally don't really mind the Pegasos/MorphOS crowd, the ones I have problems with are the trolls (both persuations) that derail threads. The "amiga too" thread is a good example of how we can have a discussion on a touchy subject (OS4 on the Pegasos) and take it way past 400 posts with just a few isolated incidents of rectal vision syndrome.

@CodeSmith

Yes, agreed entirely, but, when Amigaword.net is used as a vehicle for propaganda, by people with ultirior motives, that's when I get annoyed.

@Mikey_C

I wouldn't say MOS users are bad, but I specifically left the other sites to get away from Bill Bucks incomprehensible babbling. The man just throws buzz words out and people actually take the bait.

Recently I've started coming here less and less because there's nothing new. Only the same old trolls "discussing" the "problems" Hyperion face with "no hardware available now or anytime soon". (Edit: Well, that and RoqueFort telling us he's a virgin. I mean, who here doesn't know already? We don't need any more threads about either of those topics.)

Personally I'm eagerly awaiting releases of both the ACK PV and the Amy'05 design. And I think Hyperion are even more eager than me. I'm working on something for myself as well, but after seeing the community turn on each and every one who tries to do something positive for the community I would think both twice and thrice before sharing anything with you guys. I would have to develop this year, then test it for a decade and STILL be ahead of the competition to _maybe_ avoid flaming. No wonder ACK, Troika and Eyetech are as silent as they are.

The worst part is that it's impossible to know if the critics are criticising because they have an agenda or because they honestly feel something about the topic at hand.

Well yeah, that whole thread was just a "lookit my blog" exercise I initially gave the thread about 20 posts before it got out of hand and the mod squad had to come in with the tough love, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

Sure (look at my joining date ), I like AW.net due to its emphasis on OS4 (for the same reason I expect many people go to MorphZone), although I haven't left other websites. I'd disagree however that the current thread challenges all that. It's related to OS4, and not spam as BBRV isn't actually "selling" anything (except an idea). As long as there are a few isolated threads like this then I'm happy, and it helps prove to the wider community that AW.net users are a decent lot if those threads go like the AmigaToo one.

Obviously trolling by "blue" people is unacceptable, as is spamming of the forums with offtopic stuff.

@CodeSmith @ Mikey_C

I agree with you two 1000% I came here to share my interesst for the classics and for the OS4 Machines. I hate the stupid trolling on Amiga-News.de and Amiga.org so thats why this is the only computer related forum i visit daily and i love amigaworld.net for the reason that its so OS4 and classic related.

Keep up the good work dudes!

Hey, you're the one person I was hoping to go into that thread setting people straight; you're one of maybe ten people here who actually know what's involved in designing a new motherboard. What happened? chickened out?

Same here.
I came to AW because the focus is on Amiga and OS4, not on Aros/Morphos/UAE/Whatever.
I hope it will stay this way.

@Keyserling

But that's the thing, unless people speak up for what they want, it could all go very wrong.

In the end if people want this site to be full of Genesi material and comments, just say nothing. on the other hand, if you actually want a Pro Amiga website, now is the time to say so.

Note, that I throughout this thread, I will not be moderating in here. I am posting here as an Amigaworld member. What my fellow staff members do with this thread, is up to them.

Well, I'm with you as well. I have no interest in MorphOS at all. It's just not Amiga to me...

If people like MorphOS, good! If developers want to support both MorphOS and OS4, even better! We all benefit.

But I really don't care about what happens in the "blue camp".

Let's keep this AmigaOS4 related, please. This site is the first thing I log onto everyday because I want the latest news regarding the development of OS4, not MorphOS.

I'm not advocating banning any persons or topics as such, but it should be make clear that this site is - and will always be - supporting OS4.

My two øre ;) And happy new year...

Yes i agree, probably i will be called troll... AW.net success was good moderation (trolls will sure call it censorship) and OS4 focus without Genesi's employers trolling.

AW.net has been clear to read, informative and fun.

@Mikey_C

Well there was a poll and some people (like me) said this was a place for AmigaOS only.
We were not heard.

@elwood

Apparently Polls can be manipulated, This is the only way, we can have an accurate tally, people posting what they think.

So, far it seems people agree with my sentiments, but it's early days yet, who knows, maybe there is more people who don't want this site to be Pro Amiga

You should have better not mentioned this poll:
http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=16283&forum=7&11

Maybe AWN could do another poll. Maybe after 20 polls some people get the result they want.
Plus lots of new members (from the evil blue side) who registered just to vote. We will quickly jump over 4000 members!

Hmm but look at the # of posts some people who agreed with you have done on this site.. most of them have over 900(!!) and i think that the voice of those people counts more than the voice of others who have done 1-20 Posts in the past few weeks (sorry)...

Amigaworld.net for AmigaOS - not for MOS and AROS!!!

@Mikey_C

Well I followed MC in The Great Exodus to get away from all the "Camp" crap.

I really loved A.Org back then. It felt like something had died inside of me when I made AW my main focus initially, but the "new buzz" caught on and now I love AW.

Lets not kill AW with the same "Camp-Crap" please.

Exactly, polls on Amigaworld are not secure. that Poll you highlighted is 100% flawed. By deleting your Amigaworld cookie you can keep voting ad infinitum for which ever option you want.

So, the only way to gauge membership opinion, is to post it here yourself.

I come here for the OS4 focus. I don't think theres anything wrong with the alternatives, but I'm just not that interested in them.

I don't like trolls of any "colour".

I also don't like Bill Bucks ramblings.

I do, however, really like steak pie.
