| Well after all these x86 vs ppc battles i want to know how many people want x86 or PPC,Only for curisity to know who wins.I hope that all members vote so the poll wil be representative.
I personally want a PPC.I don´t want x86.Why? simple, i want alternatives, i want the option to choose. If all goes x86 in the end only x86 exists. Is that that you want? only one architecture, no thanks!!!! i want options!!! or maybe all these x86 fans likes the monopolies _________________ No PowerPC, No Fun Make Amiga Great Again |

Personally I don't care. All I want is an Amiga with OS4 among the alternatives on the market. _________________ I'm signatureless. |

Why bother asking? Haven't the people concerned indicated their intentions clear enough? _________________

Don't care. Choice of CPU to end user is mostly irrelevant. If Hyperion believes thay have a market somewhere outside the desktop that uses PPC and will generate revenue for them, allowing work on OS4 to continue, then I'm all for it, as long as reasonably priced, available hardware becomes available.
Longer term, yes, I think they should 'copy' Zeta and port it to anything they can and sell the software only, if it's at all possible for them to do so. But right now, any hardware..something priced like ACK or Amy would be ideal.

If OS4 was available for x86 today I'd run and buy it right away! It makes me feel silly, but all I want to do is to run AmigaOS on a decent machine.
I know I'm about to get flamed for this, but personally I think that AmigaOS has a better looking future on an already existing platform than on AmigaONE. (I say existing as the parts are available). But as an Amigan I support whatever system that can run my beloved OS. _________________ I'm signatureless. |

Seems kinda silly to me, why choose slower and more expensive hardware just to be different? Isn't it the end 'experience' that counts, not what's under the bonnet? Personally, I don't need or want another desktop machine, but I do like the idea of OS4 on a PDA. If one came out tomorrow with a cross compiler I'd buy it straight away, no matter what CPU powered it._________________

PPC AND x86.
The reason? *Cough*, I can simply quote "Fransexy":
Quote:

At the moment there is nothing to choose from, if ever. Next thing on the horizon for me is either PV or Amy, let's see which one will make it. If both, only better.
edit: see my answer, for me there are no "x86 vs ppc battles" (like you have stated). edit2: I might aswell have voted "i don´t care about the cpu", which might be true (since I don't mind), but if you ask about the current situation, PPC and x86 just looks like the most viable one.Last edited by hatschi on 14-Jan-2006 at 11:15 PM. don't care. twould like to see ppc&x86 but ppc is just as fine to me. heck even some of the obscure chips are acceptable because all i want is amiga os4 for a reasonable price. _________________ Win•dows: n. You have AmigaOS running on x86 today and it's called AROS.

Well, if enough people support AROS (via donations, coding, work or other support), it may become better than AmigaOS 4 in no time. So what are you waiting for? Hurry up.

Ok, reply to your attempt to hijack the thread. Does MorphOS runs on x86 hardware? _________________ Games, programs, reviews |

No, but does it really need to run on x86 hardware to be called AmigaOS?

No. But if AROS becomes superior than AmigaOS 4, more people will use it and will make the other derivates obscure, so it will became the "official" AmigaOS. Just like AmigaOS 4 is now, and made MorphOS obscure, despite the claims of the MorphOS fanboys like you that it's more AmigaOS than AmigaOS 4.

Wait, first you need to state the reason why and how it can become superior.

I can't see why MOS is obscure and I can't see why OS4 is obscure. Such a backward-thinking discussion. Btw, I am not a "fanboy" of anything. I just want OS4 on anything, desperately. See my point? |

I don't think many will argue with this or flame you at all. Some of us have AmigaOnes and are running OS4 now, but that doesn't mean we can't see the need for others to be able to buy it, or the appeal of 'run it on what you've got.'
