Which is precisely why we hold Big Bash in our local community hall.

It may have a rep as a "Pub do" with tables, But it's OUR pub do. WE are the ones paying up front for everything and then hoping we recoup the costs.

So far we have broke even every year except BB1 when Alan Redhouse donated the µA1. The profits of that went to "Sponsor a developer".

Your absolutely right about exhibitors too. Cant blame them really, but without them.... There's not a lot to show !!

Thats why we were bowled over by Jens and Dennis attending BB4. Fantastic that they came over.

Ultimately....

Most of us are not overtly wealthy. We simply CAN'T take the financial risk of hiring an elaborate Tech/Show centre. I think Darren Glenn will verify this point.

If the big guns or even Joe ordinary want a super kewl event then they will HAVE to show definate prior intention to attend.

Its even in Amiga Incs best interests if these show do succeed.

Just my tuppence ha'penny's thoughts.

I also organize our 2-monthly Amigaclub.be meeting in a place from the local community... something else is way out of the financial question.

Something else is out of the question when it's Amiga-Only ... it would require your exhibitors to pay a lot for a few meters. Even when it's not Amiga-Only there would be high costs. When it's "pub-style" it costs them close to nothing.

Is this "guru-meditation" someone else, or does this indicate that an agent or
representative is attending instead of yourself?

guru-meditation is our french group dedicated to Amiga programming. I just hope my friends will come at the Alchimie event too. This will be an opportunity to receive feedback on PointRider for example

I am planning to be in Paris during May 10-11 for REBOL DevCon. If the Amiga event were around that same time frame, I could attend it as well. ?

@thread

The name of our restaurant, bar and B&B is Le Lodge du Croisty. We have been open now (under our management) since 12 August, so for us, it is still early days. If you Google us you will find the old owners (tragic) webpage, a proper one of ours should be up within the week.

The property is quite large with two large hangers off the back. We have about an acre of lawned area out the back with electric (no need for generators!)

If you want to Google the town, it is Kergroëz. THAT is the Breton spelling which is how it appears on maps. The French spelling is Kergroix. Le Lodge du Croisty is halfway between Le Croisty and Priziac on the D132. We are in Central Brittany in the Morbihan close to Lorient .
Any questions? Just ask!

@Yo

Known french amiga events in 2007 :

NASS # 7 meeting is programmed for the 14 and 15th of July 2007 (at Surgères, Charentes-Maritimes)

Alchimie # 7 meeting (2 to 4th of November 2007 at Tain l'Hermitage, Drome)

Bretagne is a good place but "Pas-de-Calais" (département 62) with towns like Boulogne, Berck, Le Touquet, etc... would be fine too (facilities with eurotunnel, near Belgium, airport LTQ, etc...).

Good luck for your "french amiga event" project...

Arnaud aka bigdan
from Amigaimpact.org (amiga and pegasos daily news in french)

PS : Rebol Devcon 2007 is planned in Paris in beiing of May 2007.

@Carl-S

having discussed this with the oter co-ordinator yo we find it a viable time frame, of course i cannot extend 100% certenty as pushing the dat forwards means we have to consider that it is more likely to rain.

We will be planning an organizd event for the may'ish area, I will pm you details to the exact date when we have worked them out ;)

That town is wayyyyyyyyyyyy further then i tought from Antwerp... it's even a 6 hours drive from Calais. All 3 named french events are more or less the same distance from Belgium.
