Now THAT makes this whole thing worthwhile! I haven't actually used that program in ages. I even have a beta version that supports CyberGraphx screens for the output (it was kinda goofy running, but I recall getting it to run with a redirected screen for the main menu and being able to generate landscapes). Too bad it's no longer being developed for AmigaOS.

I'll have to see if I still have the emails I exchanged with one of the Amiga VistaPro programmers and see if he's still using that address. This is something I think he'd be interested to hear about.

@DWolfman

Isn't that one of the biggest reason that made Amiga so sexy? That the mere fact that almost all games are hardware banging? * fans face * I think I need to sit down for that thought * fans face * Mmmmm...hardware banging.......

@jtubbs

I take it you could actually see the ball. Here it GR'd a couple of times and then the game started, but without being able to see the ball it wasn't much fun to shoot, die; shoot, die; etc...end of game.

Are you using sprites or bobs for the ball and lasers? I remember in Megaball 3 there was a tooltype in the icon you could set to select bobs.

Slightly off-topic...

While you lot are enjoying the new graphic modes, perhaps you could see how well (or not) AnimatED runs?

@thread
You guys should submit your findings to Intuitionbase.com to make the list even more complete and bring the database up to date for exisiting entries...that is, if you haven't already.

I suspect that RYU will be busy for next few weeks with endless updates! That's great, but don't forget to help the guy out and donate whatever you can help him keep the site afloat...this is a great AOS4 resource that we should all ensure sticks around!

@TetiSoft

Why would someone install my emulator on a classic anyway?

I doubt it would cause any problems; OS4 on classic probably allows writes to the chip ram area, so my DSI trap would just never get called.

Please explain the full scope of this feature. Does it allow usage of any OCS/ECS/AGA gfx modes on a GFX card? Or only certain gfx modes like HAM?

It supports almost every mode: 1-8 bit planar and HAM6/HAM8, but not the EHB mode. It allows such screens to be used on a gfx card, but it'll only work correctly if the application/game renders its graphics either directly via CPU or with the OS blitter functions, not if they program the blitter directly. It makes some useful applications work, like Lightwave (no need for the patch I made earlier).

@COBRA

Not if they integrate the full classic registery into the motherboard of the new AmigaOne then all the problem would go away for sure.

I've not got VistaPro 3.0 to work as yet.

Any suggestions guys? One version simply locks the system, the other version waits for a while before it locks intuitions drawing & I have to reboot (These are the versions found on the CUAmiga cover CD).

@FuZion

Did you enable "Planar to RTG" in the GUI prefs?

I didn't, but now I do I I'm still getting the same results. What other programs could I try to see if they work?

Actually, most of my games are probably of the shoot and die variety...but yes, I could see the ball. The play was quite smooth.

I loved using Vistapro, unfortunately the program resides on the old amiga floppies, and I no longer have the ability to read those floppies. All my old Amigas have pretty well breathed their last.

CU amiga gave Vista Lite and later Vista Pro on their cover CDs.

In either MegaballAGA or Megaball4 I see the ball and am able to play it, but the graphics are really crappy.

That's a pretty cool feature for them to throw in I hope they expand upon it in the future, assuming there is a future..

I first tried with the tooltype set to bobs and then with sprites, but either way no ball. I wonder why it works for some but not for others.

OK, I've fiddled with this for a bit, but can't seem to get it to work.

I noticed you just called it Vista, not VistaPro. What version is that? What I have is the last known versions ever released on the Amiga, including a couple binaries that did not go to the general public (did a little beta testing, as I mentioned earlier).

So far all I get, even with the planar-to-RTG setting enabled, is nothing. Except about 10 seconds after I double-click the icon to start it up, I get some wierd hang in the Workbench that makes it unresponsive to anything I do.

Suggestions?
