P.S. I actually was aware of the "problem" (even in my older posts), but I assumed that I'm talking to humans

@Chip, Rob, Yabba, Stew and Elatour,

It was requested to stay on topic and leave the discussion of the step by step and Hardware for OS4 thread out of here.

@wolfe

> Gimp & Abiword with or without the X11 layer?

Both programs need X11/Cygnix, sorry. But I think, it is better than nothing

@mr2

Here is an other thread at amigans.net

@ NutsAboutAmiga

This is my goal
And maybe a web browser will run on cygnix sometimes.

> Anyway will the new Gimp version support datatypes?

It is not planned for the first release. But most format are supported anyway, including ILBM. But it needs a working plugin interface.

@CygnusEd

Great job! Abiword and Gimp.

Really amazing. I wish you could somehow make it so Cygnix was a little more seamless. So it would feel like you are running a native app rather than having to go inside something to do something.

Even if you can't though these are really good apps to have. I wish these apps were native, but even so it is really nice to at least have them available without booting into Linux.

I really would like to see something done with the printing side of things. Amiga has suffered all its life from lack of good printer support. Even if it were one particular printer that were supported really good and was available to buy, I would probably buy it if it would print to todays standard and not this 8 bit stuff. I also do not have turboprint, and probably will not get it. Mainly because even it is a bit out of date.

Me too.

IMHO it suffered from lack of printer drivers.

Then buy a PostScript printer.

Dont trust those rumors. AmigaOS can print 24bit since years.

The TurboPrint core is an old 68k replacement for printer.device which was written to replace the OS3.1 version
of printer.device which could not print in 24bit color. When you use TurboPrint with OS4 you get
slower printing (its 68k), you cant use TP with WB PPC printer drivers, you cant use TurboPrint
with the WB 68k "File" printer driver (it requires a V44 compatible printer.device),
you cant use the printer.device unit number to select between upto ten different printer
configurations, you cant use the TurboPrint print spooler, and you cant print to a PostScript
printer (TurboPrint supports converting PostScript to non-PostScript via GhostScript, but not
the other way around).
OTOH, when you already have a printer and TurboPrint has a printer driver for it but OS4 has not, then use TP.

@CygnusEd
Any news on the os4 look-alike-skin for x11 ?
That would make it seem more native.

Hate the macos skin in the screenshots.
