I think the DVI to VGA adapter is to blame for the poor quality VGA output.

As mentioned several times from various people: No it isn't.

@all

just before the aos4.1 screen during the boot, I have a one second screen with lots of of colors trashed.

The AOS4.1 screen seemed not to be bad but just after svga video problems on the main wb screen, but maybe caused by the aos4.1 screen (who not show the problem because a not grey aos4.1 picture)...

So... I s it just me who have experienced the noisy soundcard output? It wont be too noticeable on a pair of pc speakers or cheap headsets, but is extremely annoying using decent set of headset or if you hook up a half decent hi fi system.

@Mrodfr
I haven't noticed any such "colors trashed" screen on booting, but I only use DVI.

I am with you on this. It's clear that the latest batch or my board in particular is not working properly.

Have you tried forcing a resync with the adjustments on your monitor? When I first got my µA1, I connected it to the LCD monitor I had been using with a graphics card on my A4000 and got a fuzzy, uncentered screen image on the monitor. If the output from one computer is close to that from another, some monitors will sync to the settings for the first computer. After forcing the monitor to resync to the µA1, I still had to finetune the settings to get a clear image across the entire screen. If you monitor doesn't have good settings control then you might try creating a custom monitor mode with Picasso96Mode prefs. I did that with CyberGraphics prefs on my old A1200, but I have never tried it with Picasso96.

@Xenic

the grey vertical line are:

- left screen.
- all left windows opened.

same problem with all caracters written.

example: Xenic c c c c (Visible on the left untill diseapeared on the right completely).

If you open some window and have lots written on screen, it's horrible

Same when playing a video: you see the vertical lines on the movie (on grey parts mainly).

Thats mean It's not a monitor problem, SVGA cable problem, DVI2SVGA problem, It's...SAM problem. After posible to correct with an Uboot or not (hardware problem on batch REV C, It's the question IMHO.

@Mrodfr
From what m3x (of ACube) says, a VGA cable with a different impedance may fix the display problems. So if you can manage to borrow some VGA cables, you may find one of them works better. (Probably more likely to be a thick/expensive VGA cable at a guess.)

Whats wrong with the REV C of the SAM for this solution ???

I want a 100% reliable board like REV A (I think nobody complained about his SVGA output with a REV A SAM board).

BTW, I have paid one month of my salary for the SAM.

Who knows? ACube were (and may still be) investigating. I'm sure that when they have a 100% known-working solution they will tell us. Until then we only have some guesses to go on.

@ChrisH

Did you contact Acube about this?

I have an ordered Sam440 and if I find these kind of problems I would certainly want a refund.

@Nostromo
No, I have only seen posts by m3x on AmigaWorld, who seems to be from ACube. I suggest that you contact ACube yourself if you want reassurance on the matter - and perhaps also speak to your dealer.

No doubt ACube will produce another revision of the Sam440 which will fix these problems properly. Until then we have to work-around these (IMHO) very minor problems, which most people have not even noticed. Personally I think Sam440 is quite well designed, especially compared to AmigaOnes & the Pegasos 1.

If you buy a new monitor just buy a DVI monitor, it is digital, better quality and no problems of this kind And also OS4.1 udpate 1 introduced DDC support, it mean monitor autoset itself with OS4.

For all who have still a old vga, i hope a fix will pop up soon, but don't buy a vga monitor again, it is a very old and analog tech. DVI is standard for monitor since many years. Otherwise try to connect your SAM to a HDMI monitor, you don't need a converter just a DVI-HDMI cable.

LCD and DVI has been the saviour of my eyes (perhaps).

After moving to DVI LCDs I've got rid of my eyeglasses (goggles) !!!!

I recommend !!!
