@All

On my Sam Flex 667 System I tried as another suggested. Disconnecting the SATA cable from the DVDR drive solved the graphic corruption issues for me totally with the full 1 Gig Ram installed, even with compositing turned on. As soon as I connect the SATA cable it all comes back.

Perhaps those of you that aren't having the problem with 1 Gig installed are using a different brand of CDRW/DVDR drive? Mine is an LG 22X DVDRW.

I also tried limiting the memory in U-Boot Prefs to 512 Megs instead of the full 1024 and that didn't work.

@Everyone

Just sent an email regarding the problems to "Amigakit" and this is what they said :

" AmigaOS 4.1 is a beta version which is in the process of being updated for the new SAM Flex model. You will receive free updates. The problems you have described are not hardware related, but are known issues with the beta OS "

So for the moment,I will have to put my extra 512mb away and wait for the updates.......hopefully soon

Check that your Sam440 works whit Linux, if it does not its covered by warranty.
If you have problem whit the PSU you should get replaced free of charge.

@Spectre660

Yes, that's the one. Hope my Sam board is fine. I should get a new card (r7500) in a few days...

PS. Yes, I've tried with 512MB Ram, and different PCI slots.

I have seen this image for a split second before the Workbench Screen comes up.
But it is gone in a flash and a normal display comes up

@Spectre660

Hmm.... Could You do a test for me? Please, use 'vesa' command from uboot command line.
After some seconds use 'menu' command and press 'enter' (as it should enter into some of uboots prefs). Tell me what You get there. This was the way, that I got:
broken uboot screen

My monitor wont display anything after the 'vesa' command.

also to do this I had to plug my keyboard into the one of front USB ports.
The result of this was black dots in my menus ............

@Anyone

I'm trying to install the Debian Linux from the Acube site to another partition on my Flex. I received a "Kernel not found" error message during the install. Where did I go wrong?

Thanks

Ok. I think that we get same effect. So it seems that my card is fine and is working as it should. That’s bad as I have no idea why installation stops after a “kickstart load” screen...

@Barret

You didn't go wrong. You just ignore any error messages, it still boots up and works fine. Albeit no accelerated graphics. I couldn't get my wifi prism2 card working with it, and the ethernet ports weren't detected at all, but perhaps they would be if I reinstalled with a LAN cable hooked up to the router.

I haven't tested sound.

You need the 2nd CD to if you want a Desktop environment, and you must scan it during setup.

I have a SAM Flex with the same problem but D/L a 700MB iso won't be practical with a dialup connection. Please let us know what you find out with the Linux test CD. We're anxious to know

@Anyone

Could someone give me an example of a working menu.lst file for a Dual Boot Debian Lenny/OS4.1 configuration? I am having trouble adding my OS4.1 partition to the boot menu. I do have panthelope installed to the Amiga boot partition like the docs say.

Thanks

@Barret

You don't use menu.lst

You're probably using an SFS2 partition for your SYS partition. Parthenope won't see it. Make it standard SFS. You're gonna have to make a copy of the partition in order to do it though, since you can't convert SFS2 to SFS.

Have you try out a ram test program on OS4 ?
If not, i think you should try out a ram testing program(is something here for OS4 ?), let it run several hours(best overnight) to check full gigabybte.if the test program report problems, then ask acube.

You can also try to downclock the CPU to 667 MHZ and see if it work better
How is the the SAM flex overclock done ??

increase FSB ?
ormultipler ?

if overclock a CPU by increrase FSB can have much side effects, when many ram is used.

I dont know SAM use unbuffered RAM ?

if so, then its best you use RAM that have fewest chips and get 1 gigabyte.

because every chip set the signal damping higher and overclocking the FSB can cause some random freeze, because signal quality is not good enough for higher FSB

a overclock CPU can work nice when not much ram is in it, but when much ram is used, it can maybe work unstable.crashes can happen every 50 minuztes or every week.also if system get older max clock a CPu work stable reduce

so all CPU develeopers, use a test that show that the CPU at least 20% overclock work well to have better security area for crashes and chip age

If ram test fail then you can send back to acube.I think if you can reproduce ram errors with ram test programs acube need fix that, when they guarntee SAM running on 800 MHZ and want a higher price.

This may be some issue when a USB keyboad is connect to the Internal USB Port,connected to the front of the Computer case.

I made that mistake when I first hooked up the system but it's in the right place now (after I actually read the manual, which I should have done first). I also could not enter the " | " character after initial installation but that's solved by selecting "Amiga keyboard" in Input Prefs.

this can too show bad design, the power is transfer in too small conducting paths and if the ram need too much power, there are spices that cause wrong data transfer if there are other components plug in.

the first sam was designed to use embedded graphic,but new sam use a PCI.
here can maybe transfer bad data to gfx card, so best is a ram test program that also work on GFX Card.

I think test with a Ram test program that work too on gfx card maybe show more if thats a Hardware Problem or not
