If they do not use the possibility, I will be surpriced. It would be an advantage over any competing product. |
I would be EXTREMELY surprised if they did it, because it makes no sense: If you use Linux, you want to use x86, because it has tons more drivers & pre-compiled software. PPC Linux is kind of a curiosity, unless you are into embedded applications.
Plus it would stop OS4 being a "closed ecosystem", something which Hyperion has historically been very keen on. And it would kind of admit that OS4 isn't self-sufficient, when their aim is clearly that it should be eventually. (Why port Java/etc when you can just "Alt Tab" to Linux?)

Errrrr. First that showed Linux running on BOTH cores. Second, Sam440 runs Linux, but that doesn't mean they ever considered joining OS4 to Linux. Linux is there for embedded customers & for testing the hardware before OS4 is ported._________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. Im sorry but what ?!? i run my Intel C2D @ 4Ghz with DDR2 memory stable as a rock. Intel i7 + DDR3 can clock even higher stable.

| @ChrisH Indeed, I see people asking if it will run Linux, some other if it will run MOS etc. what I see is that unlike myself (because I've been back in the community just now after 15 years of absence) many here fail to realize that this new machine is the first real Amiga "Computer" we get after the A4000.
It will have an Amiga case, Amiga Keyboard with "A" keys and pre-installed AmigaOS (probably even an AmigaOne X1000 branded outer carton box).
It is the next Amiga computer not a generic naked mobo to run as many OSs as possible. _________________ SamFlex Complete 800Mhz System + AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 Amiga 2000 DKB 2MB ChipRam GVP G-Force040 Picasso 2 OS3.9 BB2 AmigaCD 32 |

I think there is a last clue in 6.html
The puzzle setter is royally sick of the black and yellow colour scheme.
The royal colour is blue, "Royal Blue". IBM are known as The Big Blue.... Am I seeing elephants?? lol

The final thing that would make it a true amiga in my eyes is that it should have NO stupid BIOS in black and white text mode like old looking PC boards / SAM / A1.
I want a nice boot logo (The amiga tic or a Boing ball) on power on with no harddrive attached. And i want do do all settings for the board in Early Startup Menu by holding down both mouse buttons. THAT is the amiga way. Instant amiga on power on. Without that it will still feel like any other motherboard. And not an amiga.
Just my 2 cents. |

i just meant that there's 0% possibility that the image would have been from processes running on Xena.
>First that showed Linux running on BOTH cores.
Yes. Linux can be ran on PPC by using one or several cores. Also different linux on every core. etc.. >Second, Sam440 runs Linux, but that doesn't mean they ever considered joining OS4 to Linux. Linux is there for embedded customers & for testing the hardware before OS4 is ported.
I do not mean that they intend to join AOS4 and linux. But I think AOS4 will not use both cores of the CPU when it comes to shops. And running Linux (+MacOnLinux) on the other core would be a nice option. As well as running two instances of AOS4 untill AOS4 gets SMP. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

Ok, they are now above 3Ghz. But the progress in Mhz is very very slow. It's easier to add parallel processing.
If there would not be any need for more performance, we would not have any speed improvements on the CPUs nowdays, that was my point. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

I fully agree with that and it should be optional and possibility to have a fast boot without 1MB picture to load with some seconds fade in and out, it's cool for some boots but I prefer quick booting time. I have never found the "Matrix menus" nice looking, and they are often cryptic with help text that isn't any help at all. And no slow memory check and other info that's only fun for the first boot, quick boot to the WB without any extra info-screens (optional). It's an Amiga after all! |

Very nice logo indeed!
If A-eon are clever and wish to continue the momentum for the X1000 that they have generated, they should run a competition to design the logo/boot logo etc or give the community some options on designs and let us choose in some way.

But... it's real Amiga. I understand you play "real Amiga" game when it's convenient? And abandoned how? There's OS4 for that. You think about classic users as lesser beings in Amiga world?
Back to my point: original Amiga was able to run quite a few OSes, so stop this BS with "it's teh truererer Amiga, it runs AmigaOS period". _________________ OpenWindows Initiative. Port PS3 hardware to bananas. For free. Join today and receive expired $50 cupon from AI! |

| @opi Any mobo can be hacked to run anything. You know that the manufacturer that made those classics didn't exist anymore (Commodore) and people felt to make any kind of thing with what was left.
Don't put words in my mouth by the way.
