everything is detailled by colinw in the post linked to by Saimo in his first post of the previous page (i.e. post#21) just read it you get every details. I really don't understand all the fuzz about such a tiny feature... _________________ AOS 4.1 : I dream it, Hyperion did it ! Now dreaming AOS 4.2... | @abalaban no fuzz, just interest :) So, looks like when you run any programms, some asycnrhonic stuff happenes (writes to envarc:appdir cash), and then, as i understand, for every new run it will be @rechecked@ if there is a path already, then skip, if not - then write new one to cash. _________________ Join us to improve dopus5! zerohero's mirror of os4/os3 crosscompiler suites |

The fuzz is due to the fact that, as evident from this discussion (and even as stated by whose in clear words), the current APPDIR: implementation is not mature enough (it's weak, insecure, undocumented and enforced on users). Just to be clear, the idea is not evil per se: it's the implementation that needs more work.

By the way, in this other thread I proposed an alternative solution that aims at the same thing, but does it in a different (and IMHO better) way. Feel free to join the discussion. Last edited by saimo on 20-Jan-2010 at 06:10 PM.

No worries, I'm fed up with lazy ports too.
MIME typing could be done by DataTypes or DefIcons, swings & roundabouts methinks. DataTypes can identify from a memory buffer though, which might be a big advantage.

I get the impression that people are ripping into it based on their (wrong) assumptions about how it works, and how it affects the system.

If you read carefully this discussion and the other one Amigans.net, you'll see that the criticism is not devoid of reason._________________ RETREAM - retro dreams for Amiga, Commodore 64 and PC |
