| Blizzard PPC PCI bus speed UPDATE:
I have now fixed one of two problems with Blizzard clocked at AGP speed.
Processor speed is now reduce and is not overclocked and is running at 280Mhz so is 20Mhz shy of its normal speed, but PCI bus performance has gone up and is now set-up to make another step-up in performance.
NEW RAGEMEM BENCHMARKS:
READ 10
WRITE 33
screenmode remains 1024x768 32 bit
I am now 100% sure now the benchmarks will rise.
NOTE: I have returned back to OS4.0 for a special reason, but will show the same result as above on OS4.1.
Note it still preliminary as there is now just one outstanding issue to fix. Last edited by delshay on 15-May-2013 at 11:05 AM. Last edited by delshay on 28-Apr-2013 at 05:27 PM. Last edited by delshay on 28-Apr-2013 at 05:22 PM.

| EARLY TESTING WITH UPDATED PCI SPEED UPGRADE/FIX
this was just a small test with OS4.0
when I open the pref window with all the icons visible there is a little bit of lag with my old speed, but now I can open a window with lots of icons on screen and move the window as fast as I can with no lag,it updates in real time,no lag detected whatsoever.
One of a few reason returning back to OS4.0 but its for testing purpose only.
Test done with 1024x768 32 bit screenmode. Last edited by delshay on 29-Apr-2013 at 04:05 AM. Last edited by delshay on 29-Apr-2013 at 04:00 AM. Last edited by delshay on 29-Apr-2013 at 01:42 AM.

This was on a 16-bit screenmode. Will be interesting to see what your overclocked hardware will do to it:

| Err card is not overclocked, remember Blizzard card has 83Mhz logic, but by the look of things from the first test, 240Mhz card may benefit also, but its too early to say as I need to know everything is working as it should and i need to find a solution for the last remaining problem.
PCI / Stability is not affected by the last remaining problem so PCI benchmark speed will without doubt increase. _________________ The Machine: Bride Of The Pin•Bot by Williams Electronics |

So is it possible to run quake 3 on a classic PPC Amiga? Is it playable? Is this port out yet? Or somekind of beta?

Yes, and it has been for some time. Quote:
Depends on your hardware. What you see in that screenshot is my vanilla BPPC+BVision. It's not particularly playable. While there is no action, you can explore but the moment you get into any real combat, it becomes a bit of a slideshow. I use it for stress testing. As you can see, it totally maxes out the processor.
I recorded a video of an older version here (it's not quite as bad as the slow recording rate makes it look, but not much better either). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcuNR3yyIo4
With a CSPPC+CVPPC, however, the framerate is not too bad, however. There's a video of it running on that combination on the hyperion blog somewhere with a very old (and buggy) version of the driver. It was considerably smoother.
Throw in a more capable graphics card, and I expect you could play it reasonably well.

I'm not sure if it is released or not._________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

| Small Update:
Nothing significant has happen of late due-to being ill.
Not sure if I have Quake III,will have to check. I do remember someone saying that it not possible to play Quake III with 800x600 with Permedia 2. Not so sure now if he is right. I have always enjoyed playing all PPC games (if available) at 800x600 with very good frame rate.
LATEST TESTING:
It seems Blizzard PPC card with Bvision slot clocked at AGP speed maybe possible, but not sure if the last remaining problem can be fixed but I will resume work on it as soon as possible.
It seems whatever the last remaining problem is, I have no choice The PCI Bus *must* be locked at AGP speed if it stands any chance of fully working, but has shown to work beyond AGP speed, but anything beyond AGP speed is not available as it needs a very special Bvision to operate beyond this frequency.
If I managed to pull this off whoever said Quake III will bring my system to a crawl with 800x600 screenmode im going to send him a cake from his local bakery with FPS written on the cake.
NOTE: if above fails there is always 41.5Mhz PCI slot fully working which I have not released any benchmarks.

| UPDATE:
Blizzard PPC follows in the footsteps of the Cyberstorm PPC and now can operate on three oscillators.
I also need two faulty Bvision,I only have two chances of getting this right,so if you have faulty Bvision card can you please list them on Ebay thanks. _________________ The Machine: Bride Of The Pin•Bot by Williams Electronics |
