This is to offer to the Aros community the chance to open source the HDAudio drivers that I paid for. I do this to fund a new secret development for Aros that will benefit all, but as the IMICA hardware does not make any profit then I will use this method to raise the funds needed.

If £750 is raised, which is less than the cost of it then I will put the source code into the Aros repository. All platforms may benefit from having this so perhaps a joint fund raise would be good.

If no interest then I will not release it sorry.

Steve

@phoenixkonsole

Just want to know I can fund this new project without paying it all myself.

@clusteruk

interesting, £750 just enough for a x1000 beta board

Serious note why dont you set this up at Amiga Bounty.net or Power2people, and why dont you want to tell us what you have planned?

@amigang

It has nothing to do with the X1000.

Cannot tell you because I want it on my machine before I tell people. Do not want pressure on developers.

@all

I am going to leave this offer open for one month, as in video, if no interest then I will forget the idea.

@Leo

Amusing comment, it had to be paid for to exist at all, which I did gladly. Now I have another project to benefit Aros and feel some help towards the cost would be good seeing as a lot of people benefited from from my other projects, some donated others did not.

@clusteruk

Is there a list of things that have made it to Aros, like this?

1. USB
2. 2D (Nuveau)
3. 3D (Gallium)
4. Network Drivers
5. Sound Drivers
6.Video Drivers
7.Cat Weasel
8. UAE Integration

Is there anything that can be added?
Thanks for your hard work.

@All

I am happy for somebody to set up a bounty that when it reaches £750 will be held until I say who to pay it to. It will not be to me and I will not say what the money is for, just that it WILL BENEFIT Aros users. If the project fails it can be added to the Aros monthly bounty. This is not payment for future work, but releasing the funds that created the HDAudio for something bigger and MUCH better.

Commodore USA have been very silent on this one considering they wanted these drivers so bad, and even mentioned it on Amiga.org that I was holding them up.

@Heinz: indeed. Just like OpenSource != money.

Yet in this Amiga community there's no OpenSource without money involved...

If I had money I'd donate (and if I used my AROS machine more, but I want one of those new ones with the nVidia chipset, right Stephen? :) ), as I know that ClusterUK is definitely a man who puts his money where his mouth is, and his work has been invaluable to the AROS people of late. So anyone wondering about his motives can rest assured if he needs cash, it'll benefit a lot of people!

Mind you, I'm not sure I'd mention CommodoreUSA in trying to get people to cough up money. :)

@Spirantho

Thanks for the support here, it is a vital project that is being worked on, it is secret to give devs space they need to do this work.

On C=USA, you are right but comments were made by them publically and this is a chance for them to join the party for a low cost. If no money is raised by this offer then I will again put my money where my mouth is and pay for the secret project.

One small note, my friend Pascal is going to share the cost of this secret project so as you can see there is a common goal and we need to work together on these big projects.

edit: I will say that next April is going to be a big month for Aros if ALL project come off.

@Leo

You mean there are big, serious projects developed outside of Amiga community with no money involved in the process? Even parts of the Linux kernel were developed by/for companies that needed them for their business. Projects like Mozilla or OpenOffice wouldn't exist in their current shape without $$$ involved either. Can't see what's wrong about that.

@jacadcaps

Hit the nail on the head, big companies pay for Open Source development to earn money from services or hardware supporting it. There is NO free lunch in open source, but everybody can benefit from the situation.
