@Fab

Updates to allow the Alpha version of Timberwolf to run on OS 4.1.

What I don't like to see is how each camp treats the work of the others.
Hard work has been done in bringing each release to each platform .
We should all respect this work. It also brings a level of competition among
developers that is healthy. the cheap comments are not.

Morph OS is currently at a kind of disadvantage because you wont support new hardware . can you ?

First there were also a couple new features. But, ok, let's assume it doesn't qualify as an OS update, then I suppose you also consider OS4.1 update 2 was nothing either?

After all, 37MB out of 40MB in OS4.1 update 2 was about python and recompiled shared objects. The rest was a couple bugfixes and a buggy cairo hw-accelerated version.

And regarding OWB - that one is progressing so fast, it is just amazing.

I wouldn't call adding a FuelGauge gadget into a window amazing progress. Even very small kids can do that much coding.

Small update or not, it is completely new ISO image. So it is new revision to 2.x line.

So if you make images of your brand new Antti Tuisku CD you can call them Antti Tuisku v1.0, v1.1, v1.2, v1.3... and so on...

Exactly. I don't know why that can't be made being against the TOS.

So you DON'T second that and like to behave like a 4 year old, or you second that and someone else posted that for you?

Well ... that is a computer reality. Same would be if you wished to use Windows on your new PC, nevermind its universal install.

Licence is per 1 computer always, but with OS 4.1 its specific to a board model.

I think you have some keyboard filter that replaces any occurence of "mac" with "old mac" in your posts. Luckily for you, it doesn't replace "SAM" with "Underpowered expensive SAM" or "Amigaone" with "Old crappy expensive Teron" yet. :)

Well, don't care much about the ####ing contest, as zerohero puts it, but at least this is the most amusing post in quite some time, IMHO...

(maybe a bit offtopic, but oh, so true!)

Guys, come on. Who really cares about version numbers?

I could call something Version 5000 with one fix of 10,000 fixes. Who cares.

It's really just marketing and doesn't matter.

The bottom line is both OS's are in active development and have different marketing behind them and different ways to version new updates.

Big deal. Not.

I guess they chose this route because it's less controversial than locking OS licenses to MAC addresses. Although Morph OS, thankfully, has got away with it so far, I suspect that Hyperion would receive a lot of criticism if they did the same.

It seems the new version of AOS is still in the works.

I would like to commend the MOS team for their fine work in MOS2.7 is it now?

I do however frown at @ this thread! obvious trolling putting a Qu about AmigaOS in the Amiga alternatives section dispite the facts. Further proof of (some) MOS users issues with not being the Amiga/AmigaOS (which is a shame because MOS team deserves more credit than that)

I recommend some one moderate it to the correct section or maybe I am mistaken and PR would simply like to post a note mentioning his laps to settle things down.

I own both MOS 2.7 and AmigaOS 4.1 U2 Yet you ACCUSE others including myself of being one of those "MOS users" spamming a thread about AmigaOS.

It would be a little more fair if known trolls were pointed out but to just Generalise all MOS users as spammers is simply ridiculous.

What is equally ridiculous is users of any flavour of Amiga like operating systems that can not be objective and are to precious about there chosen operating system that they can't handle a bit of criticism.

This thread is about OS4.1 but as a user of both MOS and AOS4.1 I made the observation that AOS has been without an update for quite an extended period of time whilst MOS has received two rather advancing updates despite what some people are suggesting in this thread. I made this observation not to be inflammatory because I absolutely love using AmigaOS 4.1 but instead I made the observation to illustrate my concern that as a AOS4.1 user I see so much progress around in the Amiga scene with AROS receiving some breakthrough updates as well as MOS but we OS4.1 users keep hearing the same old rhetoric "they are busy with X1000 yada yada yada" but we do get freespace 1 working yipee!

Cheers

Yet this very year AmigaOS4.1 got two updates as well, namely:

"Update 1 of AmigaOS 4.1 available for immediate download
Brussels, Belgium - January 14, 2010

Update 2 of AmigaOS 4.1 available for immediate download
Brussels, Belgium - April 30th, 2010"

@Ami603

point taken..... but 8 months feels like an eternity in comparison to what has been happening on AROS and MOS platforms especially knowing Timberwolf has been put on the back burner and OWB has been canned.... sigh.

I thought Amiga users have patience...

As I see it, Hyperion updates its OS in 6-12 months intervals:

PreRelease Update2: December 2004
PreRelease Update3: June 2005
PreRelease Update4: Frebruary 2006
4.0 Final Update: December 2006
4.0 July 2007 Update: July 2007
4.1: September 2008
Quick Fix for 4.1: June 2009
4.1u1: January 2010
4.1u2: April 2010

Sorry if anyone found it offensive, but it was the best adjective I could think of, so that no-one would wrongly think that MorphOS runs on any of the Macs that Apple sells (or recently sold).

I can't think a better way to give MOS a bad reputation then to have people try installing it on an expensive new Mac they just bought to use for MOS & then loudly complain when it doesn't work. Sadly there *do* exist overly-excitable people who would do such a thing, without checking the facts first.

I used "old" to indicate that MorphOS runs on no-longer-produced Macs. But I don't see the same need for AmigaOnes/etc, because there are no newer models that they could be mistaken for (and certainly none which OS4 doesn't run on).

If you would prefer, I will use "second hand Mac" instead of "old Mac". However I feel that "old" is more accurate & easier to type.

@ChrisH

Use of the word 'old' was perfectly fine, some people just love being pedantic.

And its not just 'old' macs, its 'certain old macs'. I have an iBook just lying around doing nothing, just need a new power cable after the flimsy one it comes with has snapped again. Might have been fun to download a demo of MorphOS and install it for giggles.

More cosmetic updates? Haven't there been quite a bit? Skins, transparancy, fancy gradient background configurations, window and screen drop shadows..?!

I wish for more and bug fixed drivers and stuff, like USB/CrossDOSfilesystem, gfx cards, web cams and stuff.

OK, final warning then. I've tried to talk to a few people involved in this thread, they insisted to keep acting like 4 year olds. I will now treat you like 4 year olds and show you to your room if you don't listen (ie give them a posting restriction).

Play nice, or don't play at all.

That would not be the same at all. With Windows licenses, I can uninstall it on the old computer and install it on my new PC. Otherwise I wouldn't even be able to upgrade the old computer with f.e. a new motherboard.
