I read Trevor as saying it was not their intention to reinvent the wheel (by creating their own distro).

But it'd probably be nice with a clarification as it could be read either way...

So in other words.. X1000 is delayed even further?

Personally I interpret this update as if AmigaOS 4.x for the X1000 is massively delayed. There is mention of linux and colors of peripherals, but nothing about the progress of AmigaOS 4.x. Those have been typical stalling tactics in the past.

EDIT:
My bad, no case badges mentioned...

And it looks like a rebranded or cloned Logitech RX250. Is that correct? :)

Well to be honest I am just looking forward to actually trying AmigaOS4 on hardware that is modern and very powerful. Also I have a very cool computer using the Fractal case that is to be used for X1000 and I can say it is a quality case, and I will video it when I get it with the X1000 board in it.

That is not our intention. However, it made sense (to me at least) to leverage off the work Varisys had done. I use Linux (Debian) on my Sam Flex and Ubuntu (v8.10) on my Pegaos II and x86 Netbook (v10.10) I would like the option to use Linux my A1-X1000 but first and foremost it will be running AmigaOS4.

As for continuing Linux support in the future, we are in contact with one of the original PA6T developers who maintains the Linux port.

thanks for the update & bloody great news Trevor

Hmmh! I hope someone who had the opportunity of using the AmigaOne X1000 at AmiWest can assure Zerohero that is not the case?

I shouldn't say this but I wiil, will it run Workbench 5 now renamed CommodoreOS. (troll comment?)

But seriously this is very good news and does add a lot of value to the product, and I really hope this means it should be possible to run OpenOffice Full and MacOnLinux would be nice, I just hope all is going well in general with the project and ok it may be delayed but no massive problems occur with the end goal. Good luck, I just hope we get some more monthly updates would be nice and stop people worrying/moaning/speculating as much.

The biggest problem is there aren't enough shows for ppl to see the x1000. Everyone wants to see the real deal in person, not second hand in reports.

I did try to get you guys to demo the system on the big screen, would have been in the amiwest videos for all to see, a missed opportunity.

from my impressions everything worked rather well. 3D support wasn't done at that time, and if i recall, there were issues with the ethernet driver, but other than that, the thing worked well. when i used the SAM460 i found graphic artefacts occasionally, window redraw issues, among other problems. the X1000 'felt' further along, actually.

and i was rather impressed with its performance as well, mind you; had a chance to play some video files i had brought with me (on an USB pen drive), play quake2, try UAE, run amigawriter, muck about with prefs, the lot.

in any case we'll know the situation soon enough on how far along everything is.

I've read "this is not our intention" to my suggestion of keeping code upstream, but you may be right, English is not my first language.

@TrevD

Good that project still in work !

Trev, can you plz answer on some questions:

-- when betatesters will recieve their boards
-- how amigaos4 progress for x1000 is going (users for sure mostly want to know about amigaos4 , sadly in the news no any kind of info about it).
-- is there any _real_ problems for now over the whole project which are pretty hard ?
-- is there some time changes ? I mean that many users start to think that its will get one more year.

Thanks :)

If I understand it right, the beta version 1 board was running, proof of concept. The rev 2 board is the beta test run being built now with added features.
