I've had a look at reducing the costs of the entire case.
I think I'll have to drop the original keyboard and replace it with something a bit more "common" and affordable. I am thinking entry level Logitech/Trust keyboard, something that can fit within the design.
I am also trying really hard to make sure that most of the stuff can be easily replaced by the user, for example, a broken switch or LED or even the keyboard itself...this might be difficult but I'll see what I can do.
I am thinking of not having the 3.5" slot as it makes the side view too chunky. An external 3.5" device can always been connected via USB. Thoughts?

chunky? What does it mean? What was the slot for? The CD, right? So you mean you would remove it? Hum those that would like to watch a DVD won't like it.

the only thing about the picthure of your x500 design... its not an amiga keyboard. i relly loved the cdtv keyboard or an a4000 would be optimal.anyway if its an amiga laptop i will buy it even if i have to rob an bank.... now wee ned jit to uae but its in progress soo its just wait for things to come alone...
ps way not use a slim line cd rom or skip the cdrom and then do some more card slots. like micro and compac flash all sorts of creditcard slot

... I don't really want to cut the top, as it keeps any coffee/coke spillage away! ...
Reminds me of an "accident" a friend of mine had back in the old days. He spilled a bottle of Coke over his (powered) A500 to blow up the mobo in order to get money for it from his insurance (I told him it is a stupid idea). Of course it stopped working - initially. After drying he switched it on again just to be sure - and to his big surprise it worked immediately!
Amiga - the computer that does not die...
