If you're serious about wanting an official response, you might consider sending an email to either Hyperion Entertainment or A-Eon Technology. Or both. If there is anything they are able or willing to share, that would seem to be your best bet.

I would think if one was able or willing to give response he would have done it on the forum already.

@all

Have recieved some info from a-eon today:

Quote:

London, 7th June 2011

A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that following an extensive test
programme Varisys are about to commence manufacturing the full complement of
Nemo 2 motherboards for the AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test Team. As part of the
pre-qualification process, Varisys have ported the PowerPC version of Debian
Squeeze to demonstrate that all onboard components and subsystems are
working as expected. The AmigaOS4 developers have also been busy porting the
latest
version of AmigaOS4.1.x

Cool Running

The energy efficiency of the PA Semi CPU was fully demonstrated during the
testing phase. A thermal imaging camera was used to measure the CPU and
board
temperatures while running Debian Squeeze in dual-core under full load
conditions. A maximum CPU/Heatsink/Fan assembly temperature of 31.1C was
recorded while playing a DVD on a software rendered 1920x1200 full screen
display. With the CPU fan disconnected the temperature rose to meagre 34.6C
with a CPU core temperature of 61C.

AmigaOne X1000 Update Article

We are also pleased to announce that the next issue of "Amiga Future"
magazine will contain a Nemo 2 update article. Issue 91 (July/August) should
be released in early July and can be ordered from the "Amiga Future" website
or your local Amiga reseller.

You'll have to look far back in time for that one methinks. Apple usually stays very secretive until an event and either announces something that will be available anywhere from right away to 6 months down the road and usually sticks pretty closely with those deadlines and features.

+1...assuming of course I were interested in getting another PPC-based Amiga system to run AOS4 on. One boat anchor was enough for me.

I agree. I also find it ironic that the trolls on here will flame CUSA for building up hype about any of their products and for taking pre-orders. Especially since CUSA actually has several products available for purchase now. They fail to recognize their hypocritical behavior and act as if A-Eon and the X1000 is the second coming of Jesus Christ. It's been roughly 2 years since A-Eon announced the X1000 and they've missed every announced deadline. And the price they're asking for 8 year old technology is just ridiculous. I don't care if the Amiga has been reduced to a hobby-OS, there's no excuse for such anemic hardware at such high prices.

Imho, this clearly shows how little you know about classic Amiga and people involved in making it a platform we all loved.

Oh, yes, of course. . . I should have realized that. If someone's not a developer, they don't qualify to be an Amigan.

So building Frankenthousand up over the years starting in 1985, (see article in Bitplane way back when) owning and using a couple 500's, 2000's and 4000's in the past, and doing a little minor help with some beta testing doesn't qualify as being an Amigan. Yes, of course. I don't know anything about Amiga because I don't know the online avatar names and the real names they go with. Even when I've never used and have no interest in MOS.

btw: I own PFS2 and PFS3. What a fool I am. I didn't memorize the read-me's that came with them to know who contributed what, back. . . ---what was that--- about 12 years ago?

pffftt!!!

Paul

edit: oh, I forgot. I signed up at the Phoenix project back in the '90's to help with translation work for docs. Had to sign an NDA and got accepted. But I never had any work assigned to me by Phoenix. Please, pretty please, can I be considered an Amigan now?? How about using AutoPilot back in the old GEnie days? We're you online with Amiga back then? (with a genuine Amiga 1200 modem?)

Hint: try Aminet advanced search and look for "piru" in readme. You can also filter out MorphOS entries to get only "pre-MOS" work.

I was just following the instructions given by realize to look on aorg for "opi" and "piru." Maybe he thought anyone interested in OS4 wouldn't have an account at a.org and wouldn't be able to use the search engine there. . . although I DID need to think a while about my password over there, since I don't go there all that often.

You have reply to yourself, even a multiBillon dollar company makes announcements months before the product is ready for sale an even those multiBillion dollar companies sometimes "sticks pretty closely with those deadlines" but not the exact one. AND YO WANT AND DEMAND TO A "THOUSAND DOLLAR" COMPANY TO DO IT BETTER THAN A MULTIBILLION DOLLAR ONE???!!!!! IT'S CRAZY!!!!!!

Apple are hardly perfect.

They pushed iPad out there well before it could even do proper stuff like multi-tasking. Within the year they released iPad2 - everything iPad should have been in the first place.

So, er, will the beta-testers be running Squeeze, or AmigaOS 4.1?

That just proves, you don't always need to have great product to make it successful.

Often it's enough, if you are Apple.

Anemic hardware relative to what? Compared to other hardware that doesn't run AmigaOS?

You can't compare Amiga hardware to hardware used by other operating systems (Windows, Mac etc.)

AmigaOS4 running on those boards is a fantasy, that doesn't exist in the real world.

So what's the point of comparing something real, to something fantasy.

If you don't want an X1000, just don't buy it.

Quote:
there's no excuse

Sure there is.

Few people spend big $$$ catering to a very small niche. => limited choice.

If you require cutting edge hardware, at cutting edge prices, you fall outside the niche A-EON is addressing. => stick with PCs

That's the excuse.
