>>No it wont be an atari in purists terms but make it very music editing orientated (latest iteration of Cubase is on PC by the way) and then you could say atari inspired.
Although that is not exactly how the whole CUSA was presented if I remember correctly.
>>Today is all about rebadging like your Lancia example. This is the only way for some brands to survive.
You have got that right. It's survival, survival of Amiga Inc.
This is the logic behind it. Amiga Inc. have no intention of producing anything, not in a million years. It being incapacity and ineptitude or it being laziness. So what is the quickest thing to make (survive) a couple of bucks?
License the name. Along come CUSA who, from my point of view, think on the same lines of Amiga Inc.
So how to make a few quick bucks? By hiring programmers and starting a new project? Nah. By supporting existing projects? No. By investing in new hardware? By supporting existing hardware? Nope and No.
Download a Linux distro, add a few backdrops and themes, a logo or two, bang a free emulator and off you go! Shall I remind you of the time CUSA announced Workbench 5.0? Strange isn't it? I wonder whose toes they wanted to tread on...
>>I have one question for everybody, if OS4, MOS, AROS development was completely stop, which platform would you go, for fun I mean ??
I'd personally go Windows, there is all the fun you want. Games? Online Battlefield 3 with 64 players, any conceivable hardware, software, utility? All there. I have lots of fun building pcs using the latest hardware, it's amazing stuff.
Possibly Linux if I ever wanted to go into IT, you know server maintenance and all that.
For messing about and have pure fun, see how much I can push it? I'd probably fall back on a classic Amiga. _________________ www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk |

Saw the "hanging quote" issue when you tried to quote text plus url.
Try this in preview sometime. It should work. Just add a space before the [/quote].

you're right at the beginning, CUSA speak about Amiga Workbench 5 but they changed the name and they present it now more as a C64/Amiga inspired linux distro. So that means they figure out it was not fair to do that with still developped AmigaOS4. Give them at least this credit, they are not so evil Last edited by Seblam on 13-Nov-2011 at 06:48 PM.

Maybe it would still be called Workbench 5 if it was legal for them to call it that?
There hasn't been too much made public but I remember talk of legal proceedings with a company well known to us and copyrights to names being owned by other companies.
I don't think that calling it Workbench 5 changed due to it not being fair at all, looks like it wasn't legally possible.
I don't think they're evil at all, maybe just a little deluded but they may yet prove me wrong and end up looking like a serious company that can sell something more than my local market stall PC seller._________________

I believe they had to change it, they didn't want to. Credit where it's due, but that's not here. |

"I have one question for everybody, if OS4, MOS, AROS development was completely stop, which platform would you go, for fun I mean ??"
For Games: Linux + wine. For Amigalike fun: Amithlon and other straight to AmigaOS booting alternatives & my classics. Perhaps winuae on linux. For productivity: some linux, like the http://pinguyos.com/
I would also explore more Android.
btw. I have tried Linux Mint for the past month. It does not work as well as plain Ubuntu, but also Ubuntu does weird things sometimes and is very resource hungry & getting slow on my 3800+ system. Last edited by KimmoK on 13-Nov-2011 at 09:01 PM. Last edited by KimmoK on 13-Nov-2011 at 08:56 PM.

Funny question! Nowhere. I still use my AmigaOS3.9 machines with great fun and my MorphOS and AmigaOS4.x setups will not stop working 'cos there are no (official) updates from whatever OS developing side anymore. Maybe I would have more time to invest in my Acorn RiscPC and Risc OS side of the world... Last edited by cha05e90 on 13-Nov-2011 at 09:06 PM.

I like it, although it's a bit blue. I think I'd dial that back a bit if I were going to use it on a regular basis. I'm already using Linux Mint, so there's no real reason for me to switch, but I have a spare partition for trying new distros, so I'll probably give it a spin on a slow day when I have the time.
Linux Mint is great, but I think they would get a much more Amiga-like experience if they based it on something faster like Tiny Core. Last edited by bison on 13-Nov-2011 at 11:52 PM. Last edited by bison on 13-Nov-2011 at 11:52 PM.

IMHO, TinyCore is too minimalistic. I'll next try this on my low end x86 HW: http://bodhilinux.com/ (Enlightenment was once bloated, but now it seems superb fast, when compared to any Ubuntu's variant (or Mint with Gnome/KDE/LXDE/xcfe...) _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

Dont want to be off topic but if I chose the Lambo Gallardo and not Murcielago or Aventador, it was on purpose. Gallardo is basically a Audi R8 with V10 Audi engine. Murcielago/Aventador have true V12 Lambo engine. |
A bit of OT, but Murcielago uses an evolved engine from, basically, the 60s, that was constructed by Bizzarini(a rumor has it, that engine was actually designed for Honda and their not-to-be F1 effort). Over the course of it's life, it was enlarged from 3.5 to 6.5 litres in it's last iteration in the Murcielago. So, technically speaking, Aventador has the first(and only) in-house "true" Lamborghini V12.
sorry for the OT _________________

| So wait - that screenshot is not a joke from one of you AW.net guys?
It's totally serious?
Barry kept sending me promotional crap for this thing, but my spam filter picked it out (and I didn't tell it to - it did it on its own). Guess my spam filter is better attuned to my views than I thought. |

It is, but I think it would make a great starting point if they were willing to make more than superficial changes. I'm always amazed how fast it boots from CD.

I think I really hate having the Power Icon in upper right corner, that's not the right place too put it.
If this is going to be some kind of Amiga look alike.
Linux can look like Mac, it can look like Windows, but works like Linux, the same is true for AmigaOS, If you like Linux then that’s ok, if you like AmigaOS then you hate that. _________________ http://lifeofliveforit.blogspot.no/ Facebook::LiveForIt Software for AmigaOS |
