Probably a few thousands that run it on a regular basis, much more if we count emulation. NG Amigaoids in the hundreds, active users in the low hundreds.

I'm guessing the netbook will help the numbers grow. Many non os4 users are interested in the netbook afaik.

That's because the bloke in the pub is honest and I know that for a fact. He told me himself he is.

Dear trans,
That would be known if Hyperion publicly says what is the number of AmigaOS 4.x licences sold since 2004. Probably up to several thousands.
X1000 and especially nettbook and AmigaOS 4.2 might help it with more modern features and high end / low end hardware, but that is "the future", 2012 Last edited by vox on 18-Nov-2011 at 07:10 PM.

| Why do you think Hyperion keeps the number of OS4 licenses a secret?
They could easily disclose the number of OS4 licenses if they wanted to. That information would be useful to the few developers that might be thinking of writing a commercial game or application for OS4, although commercial development for any flavor of Amiga systems is very bleak these days.
Also, Amiga users are naturally curious and want to know how many fellow users there are. Just look at all the community maps that have been set up to track this kind of information, but they will never be an accurate representation, because too many users will not add their names and locations to such maps (they are afraid someone might find them).
We know how many licenses of MorphOS2.x have been registered, because there is a number that is incremented for each new registration that is generated by the registration server and sent with the email that is sent to each user with the new license key (or is it in the email that requests payment for the registration? I can't remember). I think we are at about 1,400 registered MorphOS computers (not users, as most of us have more than one MorphOS computer) at the moment. We should get many more registrations as soon as MorphOS3.0 is released with support for the G4 PowerBook.
I agree that the released of OS4 on the NetBook will increase the number of OS4 registrations, as finally there will be an OS4 compatible computer that will be available at a price that is more acceptable to most Classic Amiga users.
Edit: Maybe we can get the owner of Colanto to release the number of AmigaForever sales that have been made over the last several years? Last edited by amigadave on 18-Nov-2011 at 08:02 PM. Last edited by amigadave on 18-Nov-2011 at 08:01 PM.

Considering how many "regulars" have split personalties (on top of other issues) that number might actually work out Last edited by Kronos on 18-Nov-2011 at 08:41 PM.

Its a fair practice by MorphOS team, not pretending to be large.
Dont think its conspiracy by Hyperion, maybe it would be dissapointing for some, like you mention.
Obviously, Hyperion will try to make AmigaOS usable, so that day might come.
After all, we all know and feel its not a huge number anyway, even x86 projects WinUAE / AROS / AmigaForever might not be used in hundreds of thousands.
We all know that means many obstacles, like commercial software development, but again it also gives a warm feel of small friendly crew, chaance to test almost everything released for machine, and to enjoy every snall step forward. Not that someone has something against going larger, and finally having both projects paid off to their developers. But it will take some more time, and cheaper hardware like the OS4 nettop and MOS for all PPC Macs is right direction to go. Beside having faster but more expensive desktops. Mac should have its X1000 with PPC G5 Mac support, those offer great performance at low second hand price.

While it would be most interesting to know sales of OS4, I believe it would also be unwise to reveal them.
Do not forget that Amiga used to be a big name, and most people dont know much about current Amiga situation. Therefore if Hyperion, or any other Amiga party is able to produce something ground breaking, they might be able to lure someone into Amiga business with the Amiga name as long as the potential investor cant find the likely disappointing salesnumbers of OS4.
Especially since knowing how active Amiga Community is, you can easily get fooled there being many times larget crows around than there is.
Just look at McEwen, he got all the way to making that deal about that Sports Center, and had he actually had the money, the town had been happy being part of - as far as they knew - worlds leading Computer Technology that still had plenty of users. |

Hmmm... find it odd that most replies seem to be referring only to OS4.x users and not as the original question that was asked as to how many AmigaOS users there are...
Seems a bit odd that some folk think AmigaOS only refers to OS4.x and not AmigaOS 3.1, 3.5 & 3.9 which were all marketed as AmigaOS... _________________

Yes, I forgot to mention the people that actualy have Classics up and running even in 2011 (proves the quality of hardware built tinat times as incredble by todays standars!)

look http://map.minimig.net/ _________________ AmigaONE. Haha. Just because you can put label on it does not make it Amiga.

I'd guestimate 20,000 AmigaOS users taking into account Amiga 1000 all the way up to AmigaOne X1000 users of course
