@BigD

It's about what I tried to say... Sure, for the money more processing power can be had, but is it as much fun? Is it as special? I don't know, but I doubt it.

yes its not cheap and you get that fullblown apple machine but it doesnt run amigaos 4.1.5. Otherwise that machine would be more interesting as the specs

Yes - but I don't want a Mac.

Apparently so. I will let you know.

Just answer me something. If they all sell out and every PA6T that A-Eon own is pulled from the inventory, will this venture have "kept the party going?"

AFAIK there are many more PA6T CPUs than X1000s. Also - I wouldn't think that Trevor would make the mistake of running out of PA6T CPUs. I would have thought if that happened A-Eon would be very happy indeed.

The costs accrued with additional mobo revisions seem to have taken their toll on Trevor's boundless enthusiasm

Maybe - also the worry over if the X1000 would sell at all was bound to be there with him so close the finish line on this. He needn't have worried! I would have thought he couldn't be happier as the entire line has sold out. In fact he's probably wishing he'd made some more!

Since when has opening & closing windows and using Shell been the primary reason for buying a £2000+ computer? OS4.x is NOT a USP in itself if it does not have the feature set of other OSes. We need native Amiga programs which do justice to OS4.x and show off it's responsiveness and clean functionality. Timberwolf needs to be confirmed as shipping with the X1000 and there needs to be a centralised download store where developers of AAA programs can upload their wares and earn some money.

I have to slightly disagree with you there BigD as OS4 is one of the main reasons for me buying the X1000 - so to me it is a USP- although arguably you could save yourself a lot of money and get almost the same thing from an OS point of view with a 460. However - I do take your point - to an average user it may not be.

I agree with you on your second point entirely. It is kind of the elephant in the room. We need more native software. Also I am interested to see how exactly the XMOS chip is used.

@-Sam-

I bet Trevor makes another run.

I bet he continues having beta testers refine things and once all his current X1000 have officially made it to the customers, and he has some $ to put back into paying himself back, he will go for the next round, until at one point not enough are selling and then the official stopage and move onto next model.

I would bet this system since it took 2 years to finally sell will be the tops in its class for a number of years before something newer bader comes out.

Am worried LAG might not go ahead; its looks like the Europe and the UK will be in the freezer by midweek with potentially a lot of snow falling in the East.

I couldn't get all the money together.
So someone can have mine if he hasn't sold it yet.

IIRC it was officially stated @ Amiwest that the following production ones after the early adopters will be financed and handled by AmigaKit.

Meanwhile, I can remember trading in an Amiga 1000 (for which I had paid something like $1200) plus $1000 for an Amiga 2000 back when a dollar was still worth something. And rumor has it that the X1000 is twice as good as an A2K.

I'll have to take your word on it (and tend to believe it's true). My feeling, however, is that making a Hollywood-movie should be considered work and well... Amiga to me has always been about fun. That's why I am eagerly awaiting the Amiga netbook to take the kitchentable's place currently occupied by the Dell Precision workstation I get to use from the office.
