@Metalheart,

Kurt at Revanch LLC has someone that can work on them. I will be sending mine in soon for an upgrade. He's in New York @ 631 249-5185.

Chris

PS, he has updated u-boot chips and can do the usb/dma fix as well.

@Metalheart

Acube-Systems used to do repairs on the CPU modules, but I don't think they do anymore.

I believe Crisot has done some repairs on some CPU modules you can ask him.

i havent seen Crisot in a long time, is he still around?

@metalheart

i suggest you try and order a new firmware chip as i have heard others have done that in the past and it "woke up" the machine.

@Toaks

Where do I get a new Uboot chip from ?

There's is no way to know if the Uboot chip is ok or faulty is there ?

Could there be some way to read my JXFS HD's on another non OS4 machine ?
Just to make a backup.....

MOS cant do that cant it ?

Cheers,

Martin

@Metalheart

might be silly to mention it, but have you checked your monitor/cable is ok? Maybe the A1 is booting but the monitor is black..

@Amigo1

I tried an old Radeon 7000 and another monitor with its own atached cable (wich I checked using my PC)

And still no output on the serial link (I'll be getting a new complete cable tomorrow, so I'll check again)

Thanks,

Martin

@Metalheart

It's very worthwhile to contact Retronix to see what the repair possibilities are and what the costs might be.

If after hooking up the new null-modem cable there's still no output from your XE, there may be a few things you can try. You're into electrics so you're probably willing to have a go?

I was able to get my seemingly dead XE working again, and was able to test things to know that the CPU itself was OK, and just needed to be removed from the PCB.

What you really need (like lots of other owners of non working AmigaONE's) is a known working CPU module to try in the mainboard. Of course, this is often not possible as they're rather rare and there probably won't be anyone close by, or willing to send you their own module by post.

@raumfahre

Tomorrow I'm going to try the null modem cable I bought, altough it doesnt say 'null modem' om the cable itself, but on the site it was named that way.... sigh...

I need to be 100% sure that the terminal program is configured correctly.

Then I might remove the CPU module and take a closer look at it (burned or loose connections etc) Then I might send it of for repair.

Any sugestions about what to check ?

Still looking into teh SAM460 though

Thanks,

The null modem has weight to it unlike just a regular serial adaptor or cable.

@Metalheart

make sure if you really need a null modem, there were threads about borken a1 where this has been already discussed. but it is difficult to find anything on this site. null modem cable (see wikipedia) has two leads crossed, which as ive been told may fry the ports or even the system if you use the wrong cable. as far as im aware pcs do not need null modem but plain cable for serial debug, but maybe im wrong. i guess a1 will need the same type of cable as pc. what i exactly know is that between an original amiga (68k) and a pc i need a null modem cable, as im using this all the time debugging aros. so be cautious and inform yourself well.

@Metalheart

Try lowering the serial speed as well. The speed for the terminal used to be slower. So I suggest experiment with a speed like 2,400 baud and see if there is any output. Then increase the speed from there.

Another thing is if you have another Amiga or computer connect the cable to that machine to test it and run a terminal program.

@Hypex

i think generic rate für output is usually 9600, at this rate i can collect output say from snoopdos or muforce on os3.x, on aros68k it is higher, still even if it is set too high some broken output shoulcd be visible i think?

as i wrote also, try tera term, its very dependable, other term programs were not so reliable imho, since i use it though no prob.

@wawa

I used a null modem cable plus a serial to USB cable to connect my A1 to my PC since it didn't have legacy serial.

Well guys if the cpu is dead there will be no serial output at all :)

(hopefully not the case)

No MorphOS cannot read JXFS partitions.

@thread

If it has not been mentioned already, AW's OS4zone has the definitive instructions for serial debug.

A null modem cable just has certain wires swtiched so that "in" goes to "out" and vice versa, there's oreson for it to weigh any diferent to a straght serial cable.

A given cable might be more rugged in quality, but that's just coincidence.
