What filesystem is the partition that Timberwolf is on ? Also did you follow the instructions in the Readme re the font cache ?

How are you adding bookmarks? I have just reformated my sys partition as sfs2, and still adding bookmarks does not work. Either by the menu item, or ctrl-D.
I have looked in options, but could not see how to enable them. If I select either show all bookmarks, or show all history, I get the same window appearing, with the same layout but both totally blank.
I would say I have just logged in, and Timbewolf asked me if I wanted to save the password info. Whether it will, or not I will see when I next start it.
Any pointer, as to what I need to do?_________________ Peter Swallow. A1XEG3-800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC], running OS4.1FE, using ac97 onboard sound.

Keys combinations do not work in TW for me. Just click a little star in the url field or use the menu (mouse or arrows and enter).

I'm afraid using SFS2 partition does not work for everyone but you may play with it... I spent few hours to make bookmarks work
After installing TW try to delete CurrentUserProfile then run TW, enter an address and try to add it to the bookmarks. Try it slowly, some windows appear with a delay
EDIT: A little proof here Last edited by mr2 on 21-Feb-2012 at 07:23 PM.

Are you running TW from the SYS; partition ? .
I tried fresh installs on a sfs2 partition and and a jxf partition. Ran each once and compared the prefs file on each partition. The jxf one was missing two line that were in the sfs2 one .

Seriously, does filesystem matter on how Timberwolf behaves considering both configs and bookmarks? _________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power |

It seems so with the bookmarks. If it were something missing on my SYS: partition I should have the same problem with the TW binaries started from separate SFS2 and JXFS partitions. Things work ok from the SFS2 but not the JXFS . Also tried after booting from a clean install boot partition of update 4 after deleting the TW config files and same results . SFS2 ok JXFS no

I'm surprised that filesystem matter on an application level... How is this even possible? _________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power |

I guess it's classical "I heard from the bloke in the pub" thingy. One person gets it working so that's got to be solution for everyone.
FS shouldnt matter unless OS is really borked. |

There are some 68k apps that wont work on a JXFS partition. Thats why my Programs: partition is SFS2.
We will have to wait and see what happens with the official bug fix or solution.

Is SFS0 the same as SFS\00 ? Is SFS2 the same as SFS\02 ?
I have tried TW on my SYS: partition which is SFS\00 and on my JXFS partitions and my DOS\07 (FastFileSystem with long filenames) partition and a new SFS\02 partition.
In every case I cannot see any bookmarks and I cannot add any bookmarks.
I have not tried the Add-On called "Super Start 3.6.3". Might give it a try next.
At least TW does not croak for me (except first try after running those fontconfig commands).

Correct re file systems . What size is your SFS\02 partition ? Mine is 26GB.
I think that the problem is that there is something in the TW config file that it cannot write to a JXFS partition. It may be related to partition size as well. My JXFS partitions are 100GB.
I cant find these two lines in my JXFS TW prefs.js file.
user_pref("browser.migration.version", 5); user_pref("browser.places.importBookmarksHTML", false);

| Update...
Not sure if Super Start 3.6.3 actually downloaded, but my system croaked the next time I tried TW.
I don't use Firefox on a pc so I don't have any experience with the add ons.
I deleted my TW drawer and started from scratch. Vigin install no add ons. I will leave it on the same partition I use for most programs which did not come with OS4.
For now I'm going to treat Timberwolf as a somewhat usable curiousity. I can't add or view bookmarks, but I don't have enough RAM to use Timberwolf as my main web browser in any case.

My SFS\02 is approximately 2 GB. My SFS\00 is approximately 2 GB. My main JXFS partition is about 35 GB and my other two JXFS partitions are about 95 GB each. My FFS (Long filenames) partition is 1 GB.

I had to go back to OWB because scrolling in TW was going crazy in low memory conditions.
TW uses alot of RAM on my system. I have only 256MB total. When my system RAM drops down below 30MB available RAM, I noticed that if I use the scroll bar on the right side of the window, it will not release the scroll bar and continues to follow the mouse pointer as I move the mouse pointer up and down the text area of the web page. This makes it difficult to review a post that is higher up on the web page while trying to reply in the text window below.

Testing file system theory :
Anyone able to get TW to run from Ram: on a cold boot after deleting the currentuserprofile directory ? or unarchiving to Ram: on cold boot and trying to run from Ram: . I get a guru every time with 1 GB ram _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card |

Due to some "legal issues" (code modifications? Not sure) it must use a different name than "FireFox" - note that Debian also have their own "IceWeasel" |
Firefox builds must be provided by the Mozilla Foundation. Otherwise, you cannot use the name. An official build it very unlikely.

Friedens do everything they can (legally) to prevent it from being ported to "amiga-like" systems (by not releasing any code they don't have to, according to the license) - of course this also affects Classic AmigaOS (not that it would ever run something this heavy / memory hog properly anyway) |
Pray, in what way? The source code of Firefox has been around for, like, 10 years. As a matter of fact, the only thing we do to "prevent it from being ported to "amiga-like" systems" is that we do not share our specific source code. This goes for a good number of other projects too, some on "amiga-like" systems. To suggest that this is us "doing everything they can" is a narrow-minded point of view.
As a matter of fact, nobody every approached us and asked for a port to any other "amiga-like" system. Not that I had enough knowledge of other systems anyway to do this, anyway. Not that I would have a MorphOS system, or AROS. We simply chose to do it for AmigaOS 4.x (duh, why is that?), and that's a decision you have to live with.
To suggest that is an attempt of us to prevent it from being ported to MorphOS or AROS is your interpretation._________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail |

One word: ROFL
Okay, it's an acronym, but you get the point.
The reason we encourage people not to copy the files over is that they are partially incompatible with those that are included with the OS. For example, Cairo changed their internal API so that adapting the AmigaOS backend wasn't trivial. We opted to include this build of libcairo.so since Timberwolf requires it.
Part of Firefox/Timberwolf is JavaScript, but there is no ixemul, cygnix, or other sort of abstraction layer.
The imaginative power of some users is simply stunning :)_________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail |
