Do you remember source of that test? Maybe it was realy only mislabeled 486.

Glad I have some old computers in my possesion, I can easily compare and verify benchmark results.

I think it is time to get this thread back on topic! I know the DOSBox discussion has it's own very busy thread anyway!

I have updated my blog today with two entries:

The first entry is about running AmiCygnix applications in Standalone mode (windowed) under AmigaOS4 on the X1000 (and how to create your own standalone scripts for applications without a standalone launcher.

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/running-amicygnix-standalone.html

The second is about PixelOz's fine Amiga HD wallpapers that have now been added to my X1000! It looked so good I had to share it!

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/new-hd-wallpaper-for-x1000.html

I hope you find them interesting!

Very nice blog (as usual). I might have to try the AmiCygnix standalone mode.

From a quick glance all your drives are using fast (U)DMA mode, rather than slow PIO mode.

I would be surprised if updating the firmware made a difference, but as we don't know the problem it is difficult to say for sure. It is rather more likely that updating your Radeon HD drivers might make a difference.

You might also check that you have not accidentally DISable interrupts on your graphics driver. Go to Sys:Prefs/ScreenMode, click the Monitors tab, and then check that the (possiby greyed-out) "Enable Interrupts" tick box is umm ticked. While you are at it, what screenmode does it show you are using in the "Available Modes"? (RGB16 or ARGB32 ?)

You could also try toggling compositing, to see if that helps. Go to Sys:Prefs/GUI, click the Effects 'tab', and then toggle "Enable" under "Compositing effects". Also check that "Optimise for Performance" is enabled.

Your screenshots are realy nice and informative! It seems AmiCygnix is more and more useful with every new version. Current integration of "unix" applications is probably not perfect, but it is definitely step forward.

Thank you all again for your kind words and feedback about my blog - I am enjoying writing it!

Today I have added a new blog entry on running Timberwolf RC1 on the X1000, positives and negatives, html5 compatibility testing and including various add-ons that work with it well. Hope you enjoy it!

1st entry is here:

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/timberwolf-rc1-web-browser-on-x1000.html

Update 22/7/2012 - I have now added a second entry related to the timberwolf RC1 coverage on my blog, covering additional add-ons and personas that work on Timberwolf. Had a lot of fun getting this setup nicely!

2nd entry is here:

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/continuing-with-timberwolf-rc1-on-x1000.html

@ChrisH

I followed your suggestions and I think I have got the source of the problem now - commercial dvd's. Should of thought of it earlier!

I tested with non-commercial DVD's and confirm that I can play non-commercial dvd's with dv player now, but still have the same issue playing non-commercial physical DVD's with MUI-Mplayer though.

I confirm that Enable Interrupts is set. I am using ARGB32 running 1920x1080 resolution.

I enabled compositing as suggested and I can see transparency now on the windows, etc, but non-commercial physical DVD's playback the same as before.

I suspect that for commercial dvd's that is encrypted css affecting things...so my undertanding is that commercial dvd's can't be played back on AmigaOS 4 without the CSS decrypter - does mui-mplayer or DV Player support doing this with additional software?

You can try dvddvplayer.lha on Depot, not a fix all though.

"This is a DvPlayer DVD plugin based on libdvdcss."

Thanks for this tip - with this I can play normal commercial dvd's now in DV Player.

All good.

I have been busy with my X1000 of late and have written several new blog entries.

The latest one covers the installation of a Radeon 9250 PCI card and PCI-e to PCI bridge on the X1000 to finally play 3D hardware accelerated games on my X1000 and also have a dual display system. Very happy with this result! More testing to some of course!

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/installing-dual-display-radeon-9250-pci.html

Another entry relates to base configuration and what to expect running C64 emulation using VICE on the X1000:

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/commodore-64-emulation-on-x1000.html

I also did a followup post on Timberwolf RC1 discussing some more add-ons and getting Japanese support working:

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/continuing-with-timberwolf-rc1-on-x1000.html

I hope these are interesting to read.

Wow, Timberwolf seems to be realy powerful!

You wrote that compositing effects couldn't be enabled on the Radeon HD. I thought current drivers do support these effects (transparent windows, window shadows etc.)?

Hey...I noticed this strange reproducable problem on my uA1-c. Whenever I try to install Amiga-Cygnix-base to AmiCygnix on the same partition (formatted SFS 1.286) I ALWAYS get an input.device DSI error that causes the install to not be completed because I get to 45% and the keyboard and mouse will not work due to the input.device error!
Anyone else have this problem with OS4.1 u 4?
After about 7 or 8 times of trying this, I hacked the install file to start at the 45% point and was able to finish the install. I hate having to kludge like that!
I have a micro A1 with 512M of RAM, a PC keyboard (uses standard plug) and a logitech wireless 2.4 GHz mouse.
So what's wrong with input device and heavy installs?

Also...once I get AmiCygnix from the base file installed, it seems to work just fine. So I go to run the install for AmiCynix-Tools and it always locks up at 35% - "Initializing MIME default applications" - it just sits there. No DSI, input devices work, but ESC doesn't abort and the CPU seems to be at 100% because I can't do anything else.

Any ideas?

Scott

It was a few blog posts ago, but this week I relied on your very clear and concise instructions on getting YouTube going with the MUIOWB/MUIMplayer combination. It's working great here, and you save me some time and frustration -- no doubt about it! Thanks, and keep up the great work.
