Basic tools like line draw, circle draw and so on...

Lines drawing is done by a script in the wedges menu.

Check

Menu->Wedges->Lines

look at

Menu->Wedges->Curves and Menu-Wedges->Boxes

whilst you are there.

Solid circles can be created with with the circle select tool and then fill the selected area how ever you like, either by drawing manually with the brush or by using a gradient fill from the layers menu.

Circular lines is not available directly at the moment, but you can do the following.

Select Circle with circle select tool

create apath from selection with the highly experimental PATHFROMSELECTION command

rx "ADDRESS SKETCHBLOCK PATHFROMSELECTION NAME 'Circle'"

Menu->Edit->Clear Selection

Then finally

Menu->Paths->Stroke Active

The result is a bit rough as the PATHFROMSELECTION comand is very experimental and doesn't create a very smooth path, and uses too many points.

Another option is to rewrite the Rexx/Wedges/Boxes.rx script to make a circular path
(I'll probably create something like that for my next release).

Btw. All selection tool buttons are not located next to each other.

yes I know about that. The tools are not sorted in any way at themoment, they just get added in the order they are loaded. To be fixed in a future version.

@broadblues

it's pure fantasy and dreaming :) no offence taken ;)

sketchbook is a awesome addition to the Amiga software library but as with any software misses a few things.

Key requirements of an Art program needs is: responsiveness and less clutter in the interface. If the user needs to click menu's more than a few times to get a particular effect, your slowing down the user.

An example of software differences (drawing a simple curved line)

- Try the difference between say Dpaint and Photoshop drawing a simple curved line, notice how long it takes to do the same thing. Dpaint is far quicker. Of course the Dpaint 2013 would have an option to create the line as a vector (also allowing alpha textured transparency and various preset/distortion effects)

I further refinement of helping the user/designer:

- If the user needs to drag away menus that get in the way,

What you don't gain in real-time effects (on slower machines), you gain with efficiency in the interface.

Shortcuts/Actions/Smart Objects for example do also help speed up the process of designing :)

Version 0.1
- Draw lines (antialiasing controls - on off - custom) :)

Version 0.2
- Curved lines (... dreaming) :))

@Yssing

Happy to mention "Perfect Paint" (I haven't tried that one, unless it was on an Amiga magazine once?) What do you like about that program the most?

Have used programs like these though:
Dpaint, Brilliance, TV paint/Aura, Opal Paint, Personal Paint, Photogenics

I havent used Perfect Paint that much, but it has good layer control, arexx scripts for some cool effects, and its 24 bit AFAIR.

Sketchblock is really becoming a very powerfull tool.

Maybe it just needs an interface with the basic drawing tools, like you see in Deluxe paint and Personal Paint. But as I read it, those tools plus more are already being worked on.

@invent

Now that looks very very interesting! Is it simply a concept, or will it actually become a real software package?

@Xmas87

Thanks Xmas87, its purely a concept although I am over time building the whole software package design :)

Meanwhile i'm digging up graphics created on an A1200 using Brilliance and posting on my blog. (unused game graphics)

@invent

if its just concept why does it read..

"AMIGApaint Software coming to an AmigaONE near you.

Inspired by the original Amiga 1000.

The Secret is out. :)"

it not very nice to just tease us like that if its just basic concepts drawing.

While there's already some nice, more advanced graphics software out there for amiga systems I still think there's room for something akin to what a Deluxe Paint 7 or Brilliance 4, etc. mightve been had they happened.
Something with a nice, simple interface tailored for "pixel art", with some animation functionality is something that seems out of flavor these days, even ib more mainstream platforms. I find this a bit of. a shame, as while I can appreciate programs like photoshop I still do turns to brilliance, deluxe paint and ppaint a lot as they suit my interests better a lot of the time. There's a couple of features they all lack however that can be handy (not least of which being the ability to work on more than one image at a time).

I just found the harddrive with my sourcecode to my attempt at a paint package along these lines, so inspired by this thread Im going to continue with it.
Expect screenshots soon

@fishy_fis

Thats great news :) Please do :) I do miss the zoom/split window when doing pixel work, its possible in photoshop but clumsy. Also miss the nice morphing tool :(

@amigang, I do apologise for the cheekiness (edited the blog wording). :)

Disapointed to say the least, your blog made it seem like something real was coming.

grafx2 felt almost genuinely amiga last time i tried it on my a4k (okay it was an amiga test version, but os4 has it i guess). its advanced implementation of what dpaint and brillance might have become in another year of development. i started an aros planar iff skin with that, and it is a great tool for the job, much better than a genuine amiga program (not to speak of photoshop;), but with the same philosophy.

OK. Seems Quite reasonable but it is not the Deluxe Paint V that I went to buy without permission underaged to Malaga.

The title bar is at the bottom. I'm Sure It's removable and what's with this smaller screen?

In AOS4 we only need printing;)

I'm amazed how small this program is.

Would I change my Corvette to a Camaro or a Mustang?
