Oh good! I was beginning to worry if you did not have another system to communicate with and had to borrow the use of someone else's system.

Have you never used "Next Gen" Amiga hardware?

Sure, my Pegasos2. Never had a problem so far.

They have always been rather picky about what memory they work with.

Thats irrelevant in this case. Kicko is not looking to upgrade or permanently replace his RAM. He wanted to see if his RAM might be the cause of his issue. As long as he can obtain RAM of the same specs from a friend its a normal troubleshooting option. Changing RAM on the average modern motherboard is certainly not rocket science.

Quote:
so it still seems silly to blindly replace known-working RAM with RAM that *may* not even be compatible

From the thread when I responded I saw no indication that the RAM had already tested good.

Quote:
In fact I would not advise randomly replacing parts in *any* computer system that has stopped working, be it Amiga, PC, Mac, or whatever.

No one is talking about random replacement. He said he was getting no video from two different video cards. Diagnostics for a user in such a case are limited and certainly replacing RAM if you have spares of the same spec is a normal troubleshooting method. That along with booting with no RAM (if the board has error beeps).

Agreed. It's always best to go to the source.

If you're going to troubleshoot a system, you should never try just replacing each component one by one. You're much better off taking out each suspect component one and by one and testing them in another machine, which is known working.
So - try the X1000 RAM in a PC that uses the same type.
Try the PSU in a PC that uses the same type.
etc. etc. etc.

Otherwise you're making your life a lot harder should there be more than one fault, which is quite common.

Good advice if you have no other options. But in this case I think there were other options:
1. Contact AmigaKit for advice.
2. Post on the official Hyperion forum.
3. The motherboard has LEDs which may give some indication where a problem is (see Hyperion forum thread).
4. Serial output may give some indication if the LEDs don't.

What I would absolutely NOT do is replace Video card + RAM + PSU + whatever, since you then have no idea if one of those new components is causing additional problems (due to say incompatibilty never mind what the specs say).

Interesting - my Sam only needs the "AmigaOS" switch to boot from CD, the "U-Boot" switch is used for booting into the U-Boot flash process.

I just created a boot CD on the SAM440, first try was just with the "bootable" swich set. I then did a test boot & noticed that Kickstart loaded too fast, was loading off my HD, the system then loaded off the CD. Next burn was with both "bootable" & "U-boot" both on, that burn loaded the KS & system off the CD. So, test your SAM boot CD & verify it does load KS, should be very slow.

@ALL

My Amigaone X1000 stop booting same Kickos. only red bar max to right!
Then nothing and it simple stop....

And this bootstop happen after the last update I do with Amiupdate at 25/2 2013
Yes I could do a cold reboot direct after update.
But when I start my computer today it wont boot in to workbench. no OS 4.1 logos.

Now I wonder when do we have a rescue CD for X1000 with HD driver thats works?

@Plexus

When we shipped you the X1000 there was an emergency recovery ISO on the Workbench screen for you to burn. This contained your specific RadeonHD drivers.

AmigaOS CD does not have the new RadeonHD drivers as they are only distributed by A-EON. This is why you have a specific emergency recovery ISO on your hard disk. If you try and boot the AmigaOS CD with a modern RadeonHD it will not initiate the display unless the RadeonHD monitor display files are copied to the boot system.

@amigakit

That ISO should have been downloadable from AEON or Hyperion, this situation put customers in pretty horrible possession if they forget to burn that ISO.

And if you forget to put gas in your car, you get stuck at the side of the road, lets put the blame where it belongs.
